The direction for this was mostly born from that scene where Cindy tells Peter that freedom is hard and they hug in the rain. Because I just found that really relatable, especially since I got into Silk the same year I finished college and suddenly had all this thinking about my future to do while coming out of quarantine QQ

So I tried to balance the lyrics so that they're still very much about Cindy but also kinda about life in general??? Also I would've given the song a happier ending, but the temptation to end it in deceptive cadence was just too strong XD

“Can you believe it’s been a whole year?” Miles asks, his feet dangling from where they sit on the side of the roof. 

“Weird, right?” Cindy hums. It’s not that she’ll ever forget what it was like to lose ten years of her life in a bunker. Not with the daily reminders when she tries to pay for something and she can’t figure out if putting the coins in someone's hand is going to trigger her because she can’t deal with that much psychical contact yet. Or if getting on the subway is going to be all too quiet with how many people are around. 

But being in the real world for a year isn’t as scary as she dreamt when she was alone. Because the world is on fire most of the time, and a lot of people are trash critters. But she’s not alone. And that’s all she ever really wanted. 

“Glad you took the leap of faith?” Miles teases, knocking his knee into hers.

“You’re insufferable,” she replies, leaping to her feet. “Wanna play?” she asks, ready to swing around for shits and giggs before the inevitable call for help.

Miles is smirking as he pulls his mask down and she just knows he’s about to scream and holla. But she doesn’t mind. He saved her - so she’ll let him be obnoxious for a little while longer.

He moves to the other end of the building, the run up unnecessary to everyone but him. She watches him leap and spin so his back is to the ground, he throws up a peace sign at her as she follows, barely hearing his yells.

But she does catch them, and it makes her smile as she follows him down. She closes her eyes, waiting for his signal before she throws a web out.

Her hockey bag burns into her side. She remembers the freedom of skating, the biting chill and the wind in her face. And she, for the first time this school year, gets it. Huh, she really should take her own advice.
