#rp @nakaweproject 🔊🔊🔊 If sharks were deliberate man-eaters, videos like this won't even be possible. Just look at how big and beautiful these #SilkySharks are as shown in this excerpt from The Sharks of Cuba: Tiburones from @discovery. They can grow to a maximum length 3.3 metres (10ft) and has an average lifespan of 23 years. A stark contrast to juvenile sizes no bigger than our lower leg that are continually being fished out in places like Puntarenas, Costa Rica. A streamlined predator, the silky shark (Carcharhinus falciformis) gets its common name from its exceptionally smooth skin, which has an almost metallic tone. The upperparts of the silky shark range between brown, bronze and grey, while its underparts are white. The tail of the silky shark has a slightly larger upper than lower lobe, which provides good thrust for catching fast-moving prey, as well as lift to keep the shark from sinking. The pectoral fins are long and slender, and there are two dorsal fins, the second of which is considerably smaller than the first. The dorsal fins are often darker than the rest of the body. The silky shark has relatively large eyes, and small teeth that are heavily serrated on both sides to help grip slippery prey. Silky Sharks are on the verge of extinction and are fished by the thousands as juveniles. We can stop this but we cannot do this alone.
