"You're late" Nightmare looked at his brother dissapointed. With a pout, Dream retorted "Sun is just raising! Besides, I gotta get my sleep, there's no chance for such long night in another year!" "That's a weak excuse for partying last night" "Hey, look, I told them this day is fir us alone, and they still eanted to celebrate, at least a few hours into the day... Besides! Didn't your boys throw you anything?"
Looking to the side, Nightmare sighed "There's nothing to celebrate. We weren't birthed, besides, it's none of their business" Dream thought about prying, but dexided against it "Ok, fine, are we ready???" "Yeah, I guess we are"
The fallen leaves, until now left to rot under the tree, were swept in a pile, until the grass underneath was visible
Dried out branches were cut off, giving way for the new ones to grow in the spring
A little tribute, quite modern tradition, was placed under the Tree. Vase with crops, decorated by dried fruit and flowers, a little tribute to the nature bringing the seasons, and a plea for good haverest in new year.
Baked apple pie, a joke turned into tradition, thanks for the power and gift of life to the twins specifically.
Dead leaves and branches were made into big pile, and then surrounded by the 6-point star shape dug into snow. It prevented the further fire from spreading, if anything were to happen. On each cross, were placed a dark or light apple, representing 12 months of a year, it's ups and downs, hopes and sorrows that were to come.
And even when both got thousand years of practice, the short day come to a close, when they lit the fire. It's their day, filled with work, but it's their ritual. Each year, they come, work, and then spend the night together, overlooking the fire and sharing stories, new memories they made, and praying for another thousand nights like that.
They would start bringing gifts for each other, trying new foods, or just be together for this ine night. They choosed to be apart, but this one day and night, it's about them and the Tree that made them be. And even if none of them ever say those words outloud...
They wish each other happy birthday, and best of the year to come.
