My Thoughts on Adepticon 2024
1.) The world would be a better place if Space Marine players stopped expecting a mini range refreshes every year.
2.) 40k players will do nothing but complain (in twitch chat) when looking at the most interesting minis ever designed (Warcry, Underworlds, etc.)
3.) Why didn't they show the rats what the hell
I wasn't going to comment on Fahrenheit discourse but like GOD. I do think Fahrenheit is a pretty good system when talking about the weather (and also, human body temperature) because it's more granular. most places in the US run from about 0 to 100 deg f throughout the year. some higher and some a lot lower. 50 is right in the middle. I don't know what there's not to understand about how convenient that is. And obviously! for science celsius is better. But for casual use when talking about the weather yea I do like Fahrenheit. Not saying everyone should drop everything right now and use it but I am a known Fahrenheit defender. Also we're not stupid, we are all taught that 32 deg F is the freezing point of water. lol.
Ok, the femme and butch discourse was such an odd thing to watch as a Canadian on this website.
Because Femme is a real French word and people were taking pictures of shirts that said it in Canadian Forever21, and I was cracking up. People were honestly saying it was "cultural appropriation," as if in the men's section, there wasn't a shirt with the word "homme" on it. I remember vividly seeing a post on my dash of a person talking about the discourse, and they straight out said something like, "there is no legitimate way to use the word femme in the English language unless you are a lesbian." And I, of course, being the asshole I am, replied by merely writing "femme fatale." they were not happy. They ended up more or less saying, "that's not what I mean, and you know it," and they were right. What they meant is they didn't want bi women to have access to the word. They didn't want trans people using it.
It is pretty incredible how deeply ridiculous people made themselves look in an attempt to "purify" queer culture. I'll be honest, I looked at the discourse and was like, am I missing something? These people are speaking with such confidence they must have straightforward and legitimate reasons to feel this way. So I more or less left it alone and let it unfold without much comment. Now that it's settled, it is pretty obvious why people were saying what they were saying.
I'm not looking to convince anyone of anything; too many people have put their opinion on this discourse as a part of their identity for any attempt from someone who cares as little as I do to change it. But looking back, it is just so silly. The fake outrage, the drama, the weak arguments put forward. The thought of how many children were radicalized by terfs in that argument is less fun to think about. How many trans people and bi women were harassed. But the idea of these seventeen-year-olds messaging queer elders to "learn their history" is still a pretty absurd picture.
While I don't think everyone involved in that discourse was American, it was one of those fights that really showed precisely how American-centric this site is.
You Can’t Age Up to Ship!
I think Dan and Swampy will disagree. Gotta love TV Shows that know how to tell a Story
“Act Your Age”- Phineas and Ferb
okay but if you actively hate/are extremely angered by something. and said thing very trivial. then just. avoid it. focus on the things you like instead.
I have a question that may be...unpopular. Why are we calling gorgeous crocheted circles "mandalas"? Are we ashamed of doilies? Doilies need more love, IMHO.
A Tumblr Bedtime Story
There were once a group of teenagers in 2019 who found a spirit board that had been abandoned for 30 years.
Excitedly they found the planchette, clean and shiny and new. Gleeful they were to have a new toy but … oh what’s this?
Instructions? No… a history.
This spirit board has been known to contact horned entities. They have been here since the beginning of time and have answered to this tool of communication since its invention.
“Well, that’s bullshit. I don’t want to talk to horned entities.”
“I hear that people call them demons.”
“Eww demons. That’s like… against my morals. Maybe we shouldn't ...”
“No,” said the Ring Leader. “This is our shiny new toy and we will not let demons ruin this.”
“What should we do?” Asked the others in hushed, traumatized and triggered voices.
“We shall take this Sharpie and write on the bottom of this amazing toy a new rule!”
And with that announcement came the words, written in black bold print (because no one uses cursive anymore) Demons, DO NOT INTERACT OR I WILL DELETE YOUR HORNES.
And Lo... upon the first use, the demons were startled to see this un-unholy text. Baffled, they looked to their leader who laughed and laughed and laughed till the walls began to bleed.
“Well, fuck them. This is our board.”
The End
The moral of the story? Demons don’t give a shit.
(Disclaimer: No demons were harmed in the writing of this tale. This author does not condone speaking with demons unless fully prepared to pay the price for their services. Respect is given to all supernatural beings and the above intended no disrespect. As for the condition of the teens... Who knows.)
