I have a friend who's never had a tumblr account and I used the word "genus" in casual conversation and he was like, "genus?" and I said "the level above species in biological taxonomy :)" and he looked at me blankly and I explained the levels of taxonomy and what makes a species a species and he said "idk anything about biology. I figure that most members of a species look the same. like humans - we all have two arms, stand on two legs, et cetera" and I just stared at him, and he thought I was looking at him with scorn for his lowly intelligence, but I was actually having war flashbacks to the "behold a man" plucked chicken discourse of ~330 BCE
