I didn't pass a single building today. No businesses or houses, even abandoned ones. There were about 3 signs and not even that many sheep. The route was absolutely beautiful and immense in scale. I was out there. Amidst feeling truly alone on the wide open road, I met another young solo female tourist! Imogen from England was leading a mirror image tour. She, 2 weeks in heading counter clockwise. Me, 1 week in heading clockwise. She agreed that we must be mad to be out here but oh man is it worth it. We laughed about the other cyclists who are too intense to chat with us. It was so reassuring to meet her! The only campground for quite awhile was 5 miles off route on a dirt path. My body and brain were really not feeling this move. Feeling exhausted and like I was making no progress, I stopped near the top of a hill, gave myself a pep talk and ate pb and cardboard (really it is identical in looks, texture, and possibly taste) and continued on. Right over the crest was the most glorious camp site situated within rolling meadows by sod covered houses. I set up my tent besides a river and ordered a coffee at the also sod covered cottage. I met this very friendly sheep under my picnic table. Things work out. #bikeiceland #biketouring #sillysheep #weouthere (at Fjalladyrd - Mödrudalur)
