The first time meeting Mercury Black had scared Emerald more than she let on. Emerald wouldn’t go as far as to say she was morally correct, far from it. Even still, she’d never met someone who could kill someone and be so.. normal about it. It was the first time Emerald had seen a body; one that hadn’t been killed by a Grimm at least. The fire. The blood soaked bandages. When she joined Cinder she didn’t realise that this was the kind of people she’d be associating with. How was she suppose to trust a killer? One who slaughtered his own father and burnt his house to rubble. Sure, Emerald had her animosity towards her birth parents but.. how could someone be so numb to death?
She didn’t trust him, that was for sure. She tried to convince Cinder of this. Tried to tell her that they didn’t need him, that she would be enough for Cinder to get what she wanted. She told herself that it was all because Mercury was untrustworthy though.. if she were honest, maybe a part of it came from her attachment to her newfound leader. A level of desperation for approval and validation. So when Cinder struck out, Emerald blamed it on Mercury. This was entirely his fault. They had been fine without him..
Cheek still stinging from the slap, Emerald left to go blow off some steam in the forest. A bitter part of her kind of hoped a Grimm would come along and take care of Mercury for her, something she quickly chilled herself for. Here she was judging Mercury for his view on death and then so casually wishing the same on him. Frowning, Emerald glanced over to her new teammate. She was nothing like him.
“Don’t get comfortable. You’re only here because her first choice was gone.”
