(Left, Right:) Coccoloba uvifera, or Seagrape, with the 21st Street Beachwalk pillar in the background. The leaves turn red before withering. It is tolerant of shade and highly tolerant of salt, so it typically is planted to help stabilize beach edges. It also helps prevent sea turtles from being distracted by nearby lights. The fruit it produces can be eaten raw or made into a delicious jelly or wine. (X)
(Middle:) Conocarpus erectus var. sericeus, or Silver Buttonwood, with the Miami skyline behind it. Native to Florida, this can grow into a tree reaching 20 feet high or be kept a trimmed shrub. (X)
