What is that Gone Home game? I ask because I follow you and I trust your descriptions and opinions. :)
Hi Anon! Oh gosh, thank you :D I hope my explanation does this game justice.
Gone Home is a game you can get on Steam. People argue if it’s actually a game since there is no shooting and you can’t die or level up. It’s like the old game Myst. First person walk through and point and click exploration. The more you explore, the more you reveal and get out of the story. You play the eldest daughter who just came home from a long study abroad program. You’ve never been to this house though because your parents and younger sister just moved there while you were away. But why aren’t they all there to greet you?
I don’t want to spoil any of the story, because finding out about what has happened while you were away is what makes this game great in my opinion. For me, it was a new way of storytelling that hit me emotionally on a few levels I have rarely experienced. It doesn’t take long to play (maybe 2 hours max, depends how long and thorough you want to go through it). The ambiance got to me more than any other game I’ve played. And by the end I was crying, but I wont tell you why.
I hope that helped give you some idea about it. I can’t promise it will resonate the same way for you as it did for me, but I say give it a try. It’s on sale on Steam sometimes, but I don’t think it costs too much. And don’t play it if you are in a rush. It’s not a game for everyone, but it was my favorite game of 2013.
(PS-It takes place during the 90′s so there is some fun nostalgia there too)
