The lake at Alexandria was the closest Daryl had felt to feeling safe in a very long time, it was like being outside the walls if he looked up, blocking the houses out of his vision. It felt like when he’d been with Merle, outside and free before all of this.
The walls still felt suffocating, but at least he felt a little safer now. Shifting his feet on the bottom of the lake, feeling the squidgy mud between his toes as he took a few steps closer. He settled after a second and looked back over at the bank, exhaling slightly in relief as he noticed the figure watching was Rick.
“Don’ like showers.” He called, wading back towards the bank and pulling himself onto the grass. “Y’joinin’ me?” He turned back towards the water, almost stepping into it again before he felt a hand brush over the thick scar tissue on his back.
The archer froze, biting his lip hard enough to draw blood. He didn’t turn back, didn’t move save to hang his head.
“What’re y’doin’, Rick?”
