how about feminism? like what it is and the misconceptions. and emma watson. but idk your views on it. so maybe you views on feminism? :)
Great question, Molly, but I will answer here since I decided to go another direction for my video tomorrow.
I’m putting this all in words I would normally use, so if it sounds kinda dumb and stupid, it’s all me, I promise.
Feminism is the concept, now revolution, of that women should be equal to men in opportunities and especially, pay. It gets a really bad rap because the connotation of the word “feminism” usually produces a “bra-burning, no-shaving, man-hating woman” stereotype, which could not be further than the truth.
I do consider myself a feminist. As a woman, I honestly think I should. Who DOESN’T want the same kind of pay that men do in the work field? I would like to be equally respected, paid, looked up to, powerful, and influential, without being called a bitch, cunt, on my period, crazy, or demanding.
Of course, each gender has specific strengths, which causes a lot of rift as to why women shouldn’t be allowed the same positions, to which I call bullshit. Nothing can get in your way if you have a set goal and alter/refine your skills to be the best for whatever position you’re going for. If you’re the most qualified AND able to be influential, why the FUCK wouldn’t you be hired? Unfortunately, some employers remain prejudiced. But the good news is that we’re working to change that.
What Emma Watson is doing is utterly BEAUTIFUL. Not only is she addressing this issue in the most intelligent and thought-out of ways, but she is doing what most are not, which is calling for men to stand with her for the equal rights of women. She spoke with such elegancy, grace, but most importantly, power that I could not even dream of, and it has rippled through our society with such relevancy that even the internet trolls can’t ignore.
I’m saddened by the response many males are having to her UN speech; the leaking of her nude photos, the “get back to the kitchen” comments….of course, someone will go “BUT NOT ALL MEN-“
well yeah of course but THOSE men, THOSE fucking men are the problem. THOSE who still believe our world is unchanging and stagnant in our ways and utterly CANNOT BELIEVE THAT WOMEN ARE CAPABLE OF DOING
THINGS???OTHER THAN??MAKING FOOD???
AND BEING??DOMESTIC????WHAT A FUCKING CONCEPT
I’m grateful to have a boyfriend who will fight alongside me for my rights (and independently, taking his friend down after he said some sexist remarks, to which I was extremely proud of his actions). But this movement cannot stop until those who say that Hermione Granger is trash for wanting equality across genders and sexes are thrown to the trash where they belong.
I will fight tooth and nail alongside her, and urge you to do the same.
Do you know how many things can be WEAPONS in the kitchen? If I have to arm myself with a god damn butter knife and a spatula shaped like a smiling kitty, you better believe that I will be trained to have both of those things cause the utmost pain possible. That spatula is going right up your ass, I promise you.
