Yet another fairytale AU for SilveRose❤️💚 hope you all enjoy!
Riddle pushes several bushes out of his way and brushes off and remaining leaves. He places a hand over his eyes to look up into the sunny sky.
I must find the one responsible for all the strange happenings in town… otherwise, more strange things will continue to occur.
The red haired boy looks down and jumps over a tiny stream cutting through the forest. He holds his bag close to him and continues forward. The weather was lovely for conducting an investigation such as this. He was sure he’d find the culprit sooner or later.
He grabs a twig and uses it to push aside a bush of ivy, ensuring he would not be stung in the process. He then looks down at the floor and opens his map.
“I’ve checked in a good amount of directions, but… I should continue heading north. I’m sure I’ll find something there-“
Riddle is cut off when he bumps into something. It’s soft and warm, so he assumes it’s a person and shakes himself off.
“My apologies! I did not see you there.”
“You’re good; don’t worry,” a deep voice rumbles in response. Riddle freezes upon hearing those words.
Riddle looks up from his map to see something large and pale, like the color of skin, resting before him. He looks to the side and notices digits, thicker than tree trunks, sitting atop a bed of grass. The red haired boy rubs his eyes to make sure he isn’t dreaming.
Realization finally kicks in. Riddle looks up, his gaze tracking from the pale object to what he believes is a sleeve. He continues looking up, higher still, until he is met with what appears to be dreamy, aurora eyes and silvery hair. A handsome face stares down at him as the red haired boy retracts in surprise.
This isn’t a “thing”… it’s a giant!
Riddle can feel his legs trembling as he realizes there is a giant sitting right in front of him. The giant turns to face him, his massive hand lifting from the ground right in front of the human. Riddle falls backwards from the overwhelming presence before him, gawking like a wide eyed insect.
The giant gently begins to turn his frame, the earth rumbling with even the slightest movements. Riddle is met with the same, purple gaze he had seen before it occurred to him what this “thing” truly was.
“You… why are you so tiny?” The giant asks, his voice soothing.
“I-I could ask why you are so… HUGE?!” Riddle stammers in reply. He scrambles back on his hands and legs until he hits a tree.
“Hey, no need to be afraid. I promise I won’t hurt you,” the giant states in response to the red haired boy’s fear. He gently reaches one of his gigantic fingers out, tilting his head.
Riddle doesn’t move; he’s too frozen in fear to even respond. The giant could crush him without a second thought.
And yet, with all his fear, Riddle did not expect what happened next. The giant gently brushes his finger across Riddle’s face, delicately like a feather. He then lifts his index finger and rubs it across Riddle’s head.
“W-what are you doing?!” Riddle asks defiantly.
“Hmm? Do you not like being pet?”
“I-I am not an animal! I am a respectable human being! My NAME is Riddle Rosehearts!”
The giant chuckles a bit, his voice rattling the treetops. “That’s a very nice name. My name is Silver.”
“Silver…?” Riddle echoes. I guess that’s a given, since his hair is the color of his name.
“I’ve never seen a… human, before. You are exceptionally cute, you know that?”
“C-cute?” Riddle bristles up in defiance. “Are you mocking me simply due to my stature?!”
Silver shakes his head. “No. I’m saying that because you’ve got a lot of courage for someone so tiny. May I hold you?”
Riddle grows increasingly impatient. “You wish to hold me?”
Silver nods. “Only if it’s ok with you.”
The red haired boy looks at his bag and thinks to himself. Perhaps… he is the one behind the strange midnight occurrences… it may be wise to get some answers from him.
“Y-yes. You may hold me.”
Silver reaches out with the hand that was petting Riddle and closes his fingers around him. Riddle can feel his chest be slightly compressed as the giant’s grip becomes more firm around him. A rush of air flows through the gaps of Silver’s fingers as Riddle feels his ears pop.
When the movement is over, Silver unfurls his palm and watches Riddle sit up. The red haired boy looks out over the edge of the giant’s palm and stares down at the earth far beneath them, baffled.
“H-how tall ARE you?!” Riddle asks, scrambling back to avoid falling.
“5’9?! Impossible! I’m roughly 5’3! There is no way!” Riddle responds, bewildered.
“Oh. Then… I’m probably around 80 feet tall by your standards,” Silver replies casually.
“80 FEET?!” Riddle asks in disbelief. “How do you just casually admit that?!”
“It’s odd that I’m 80 feet tall?” Silver asks, tilting his head.
“B-by human standards, YES?!”
The giant chuckles again. “You’re very funny. I like you, Riddle.”
Riddle can feel his face heat up before he shakes the thought off and remembers why he ventured out into the woods in the first place. “Now that we’re, uh… face to face, I want to ask you a question!”
Silver smiles. “Ok, then. What’s your question?”
Riddle pulls out his list of “strange occurrences” and clears his throat. “I’d like to ask if you are the one behind these events!”
Silver squints at the tiny parchment in Riddle’s hands. He then begins to nod his head.
“Looks like my cover’s been partially blown.”
“I knew it! I- wait, partially?” Riddle asks, confused.
“Mhm. I’m only responsible for half these things. I thought all the little homes were an elaborate diorama Father constructed.”
“Mhm. My father, Lilia Vanrouge. He adopted me when I was just a baby. Then, as I got older, I started growing. I got a lot bigger than my actual house… Father said it was a miraculous growth spurt I underwent.”
Riddle shuffles in Silver’s palm. “Miraculous is a bit of an understatement. But, anyways, would you happen to know who else did those deeds in town?”
Silver shakes his head. “Nope. But I could help you find them.”
Riddle’s face lights up. “Really? You’d help me? Fantastic! I will have a birds eye view from all the way up here!”
The red haired boy freezes. “But…?”
Silver puts a hand behind his head. “I have two simple conditions. One, I want you to come meet Father with me.”
Riddle thinks for a moment and nods. “That is manageable. What is your second condition?”
“Hmm…” Silver thinks for a moment.
“I want you to be my friend.”
“Really? That simple?” Riddle scoffs at this task. “This shall be easy! Very well then, Silver. I accept your conditions.”
“You have to promise to stay my friend even after I help you with your investigation. I don’t want you running off and abandoning me. Please?”
Riddle looks up. “F-friends with a giant? Forever…?”
“Yes, forever. Did you think I’d only be your friend simply because I wanted to help this one time?”
“That is… odd. No one has ever wanted me to continue being their friend after something happens where they need me. Except for Trey…” Riddle thinks for a minute. “Ok. It will be easy enough, I suppose. As long as you promise to stop these strange occurrences at night.”
“Deal.” Silver extends his pinkie, accidentally pushing Riddle over in an attempt for a pinkie promise. Riddle sighs and places his hand on the giant’s pinkie, shaking it.
What have I gotten myself in to…?
