“You understand me,” she says lightly, and he’s not sure if it’s a compliment, an insult, or simply a statement. With Juliette it would have been clear, but with Eve, she says them all the same (and she’s still Juliette; he knows it to his bones, even if it’s easier for all of them if they pretend she isn’t). 

“I used to.” He shrugs. “Now I’m not so sure.” 

“You do.” She turns to face him, studying him in that unsettling way of hers (like she’s seeing right through him, seeing him better than he sees himself). “And I understand you.” 

He wants to balk, to argue, to insist that he’s far more complicated than she gives him credit for. But-but-

But it’s her. They’ve seen each other at their worst and best, and whatever they are now does little to erase those memories. 

“So what happens now?”

Once, she smiled often. Now, the warm look she gives him is almost alien on her face, the corners of her lips quirked up. “Now we keep going.” 

What else is there to do, really?

Silverprince+"I forgive you."

I, uh, I can see this two ways and I can't choose, so...

1. ‘I forgive you.’ Juliette took a step forward, close enough to take Sean's hands, close enough to hear his shuddering intake of breath. ‘We've both done a lot of things we regret, and we both need a lot of forgiveness. So let me start: I forgive you.’

She'd never seen him cry - he'd always been too strong, too controlled, too put together - but now the tears streamed down his face as he collapsed in her arms. She held him tight, letting him sob into her shoulder and she whispered nonsense and combed her fingers through his hair.

2. ‘I forgive you.’

Juliette snorted, bumping Sean's arm with her shoulder as they left the theatre. ‘I have done nothing to apologize for. It's not my fault you don't appreciate a good movie when you see it.'

He laughed, and her stomached flipped at seeing him so carefree, so happy. ‘I can't believe you made me watch that when my own eyes,’ he shook his head, ‘I can't believe the woman I love has such terrible taste in movies.’
