Hey Azzy! Happy STS! Can you tell us a bit more about what Yilvar is like as a person? If he wasn't a figurehead with responsibilities and destinies, what kind of a person would he be?

Yilvar is such an interesting and complex character to me, i love him and deeply torment him

like, this man has four different elemental resonances through his life. that's three shifts. most people shift once at most. he's born with a fire resonance, shifts to water at five years old (one of the youngest shifts ever recorded), then to earth when his mother dies and he becomes the new figurehead and the shift into light takes from age nineteen to twenty

he's not a natural leader, neither of the political nor of the military kind. he really... was not made to lead a rebellion, and he struggles a lot with learning to be in that position and what to do, what to prioritize, what to say

it's a lot of rotten work, and he is deeply overwhelmed by it. especially because he "inherited" the revolution from his parents, and people expect him to lead like they did. but his parents were a knight of the First Order (his mother) and Zere's chief advisor on international politics (his father). Yilvar was born on the run, with little to no money, being taught to hide, run and cause a ruckus, and that getting caught means death. he wasn't taught diplomacy, he wasn't taught military strategy, he definitely wasn't taught how to interact with nobles and generals and political leaders. he learned all of that by sneaking into meetings he wasn't supposed to be in, by running out on the battlefield and copying what other team leaders were doing, and by surviving long enough to figure it out

what he's good at is connecting with the general public on an emotional level, and that's why he's used as a figurehead by the leaders of the kireis

he does get to a point where he's legitimately a decent strategist and diplomat. he's better in the field and out in a crowd, but he can work a war room or a diplomatic meeting. the other leaders just won't let him and don't generally listen to him, because they don't want him, they want his parents. which is why you get to the scene in An Oath On Bloodied Diamonds, where he snaps at the military leaders and goes "fuck all of you all, swear this fucking oath, i will do this one thing to prove myself to you and when i come back you do what i fucking tell you"

(fun fact: at the end of the piece, where the sword "grows hotter in his hand, sparking with lighter mana", you have the exact moment his resonance starts to shift into light :3 )

and then he actually comes back with the scepter of Ljus — which is an actually really powerful artefact, it's literally the old scepter of Ljus, Livi of Light also known as The Oracle of the Sky, so, y'know? — and starts to actually lead the rebellion, but this time in his style rather than trying to do what his parents would have done

which means a lot less "fair" fighting and a lot more hit and run tactics, bombs, sabotage, cooperating with civilian uprisings, working with assasins, bounty hunters and pirates, stealing supply lines and developing more and more technologically and magically advanced weapons. and using the scepter. the scepter can do some really funky things

so yeah, he's a people-person, incredibly stubborn and sneaky and chaotic, a little more violent than most people are comfortable with, and a practical learner with a lot of mistakes and grief on his back

as for if he wasn't the figure-head of the revolution, it's hard to say. he's influenced by the revolution just about as much as he influences the revolution is by him. which is a lot

he probably wouldn't have as many trust issues, and he'd be less jaded (he likes to call himself an optimist. he is not one. he could have been, in another life). more empathetic too. he naturally is, but he had to tune that down because he was literally too empathetic to lead the revolution. it was good as a publicity stunt as a figurehead but he was literally going insane with grief. even as is, after toning it down, after the war he has no children of his own and adopts, like seven or eight orphans. which is one of the reasons the Akarai family line is a fucking mess

he'd probably be a little less violent, but i can't see him any less prone to trickery, explosions or talking his way into the public's graces. if this version of him were a d&d character, he'd be a bard-artificer multiclass with a noble background. feel free to make assumptions based on that

AFTERCADE MASTERDOC (additional info under the cut)

Basic lore: The small crew of a local arcade all die in an unknown accident. Despite this tragic synopsis, the story is more on the humorous side of things, as all the characters are sent to a joint purgatory where they get to: Keep Working Customer Service!

More lore/character info: The first maybe twenty minutes of the game, everything is normal. You switch your POV from character to character, getting to know each of the employees.

Then, a blackout. you now follow the last person you were controlling before this sudden pause, and everything seems different. The music stops, the arcade is all turned off, with some eerie sound effects from malfunctioning attractions and games. And the stench of metal fills the place. You’re drawn to the spot where you were working prior, be it the prize counter, child care department, or the food service. It ends up the same way; you encounter your dead body.

And after that, things turn again! Daylight fills the place up, to show the absolute wreckage. And the crew gets to meet Death. Who’s a little more laid back than you’d expect… Like, yeah, you all died. Anyway, need y’all to work in my purgatory attraction.

When night falls, the broken down place seems to expand and light up; loud music and even bigger games and attractions than before. There’s even a giant rollercoaster that circles the entire area! It’s insane. They all get work im the same place as they did when alive, with some skeleton critters helping out with cleaning. The manager gets beat up all the time for his sins. Fun times!

Chris: Manager/local asshole. Don’t worry, he gets what he deserves! One can only fantasize about a power hungry maniac getting his behavior turned on him tenfold (Oh wait, it’s actually happening).

Lynn Lorenzo: Probably not her real name. Dead inside (and now outside too!). Very dead. A generous soul deep down. Oddly unconcerned about her own death, although it’s wildly different when it comes to her coworkers. They had shit to live for. Not her…

Claire Juniper: Rich girl who doesn’t know she’s rich or what that implies. Although her parents always provided for her, she got this job because she wants to sustain her own life, like any responsible adult! Does not understand why her coworkers don’t engage a lot. Has some mentalities that she needs to work through.

Steph Cartier: Oldest employee (still just 30 lol), who’s a little severely depressed. His ex wife divorced right when their daughter was born, and she did not allow him to be a part of their life. He ended up too unstable and helpless to show up to work and lost his job. After a couple years, he got himself together enough to work at the arcade, get himself back together.

Oliver Stu: …He’s fifteen. [Checks notes.] Wait, what’s this kid doing here? Oliver looks a bit older due to being on HRT (without his parents knowing. Somehow…), but he still looks barely 18. So the coworkers are a bit concerned. Every time they tried to smoothly bring up the subject, the guy SWEARS he’s 21! He said 22 last time. Nah, maybe he said 19? Oh well…

Alex/Xander Rong: You know that person from your work or school that seems to be ALWAYS, literally ALWAYS high? That’s Xander. They’ll show up next to you out of nowhere and start the most thought provoking, philosophical conversation ever before blinking and saying, “Man… what the hell did i just say?” He’s also clairvoyant but i’m sure that’s not important. He rarely even brings it up!

ANDDDDD, that’s the first of my masterdocs done! Aftercade is one of my favorite stories, and one of my most recent ones too. It holds a special place in my heart… Despite the fact that i know it’ll take ages before this is ever becoming a full game! i’m very ambitious, i wouldn’t want it released before listing off every checkmark. anyway, ramble over. time to tag all this!
