Sims 4, and the Fundamental Flaw with Emotion Mechanics
I used to be a primarily Sims 3 player. There was a lot of magic in that game that was lost in the Sims 4, and I’m on a mission to untangle why the Sims 4 is so fundamentally broken.
Why do sims 4 sims feel so plastic? So dead? You spend hours in CAS piecing together their perfect characterization in your head, and then once they’re out on the playing field it all vanishes.
The problem is the emotions.
In an attempt to make sims more personal, EA alienated us from them entirely.
In older games, such as Sims 3, emotions were not a mechanic. Instead there was a dynamic meter indicating content or distress. This rather ambiguous system let us interpret each moodlet’s deeper implications as we saw fit.
At the end, the sims franchise is a Digital Dollhouse. It is a game of pretend. Now imagine if instead of letting you form your own conclusions, the dolls told you exactly what they felt.
All characterization and nuance disappears, because instead of interpreting the game through the lens of your creativity and your character, the game’s rather shallow system attempts to push events through it’s own abysmal digital concept of who your character is, and spits out exactly what it dictates your character is thinking or feeling. The story is out of the author’s hands.
There is no story. Only the data output of a glorified calculator.
So I made an apartment for the first time in Sims 3 (yes, I am very late to starting that)
I followed all the instructions form Sims Wiki....but all the NPCs won’t go into the NPC-designated doors/apartments! They only want to go into MY sims apartment so I had to lock the door, so even my Sim can’t get in there.
All the NPCs are living in the lobby and I had to give them beds, showers/stoves etc. because they were on the verge of dying.
I can’t find any help online about how to get the NPCs to use their own apartments and to stop thinking my Sims apartment is theirs!?
Anyone know??
Thank you sims for reminding me that I should never feel at ease with you. Looks like my save is corrupted but since it won’t launch again I’m not sure if I fixed the problem or not :P
When you prebuilt the world for the next chapter of your legacy and then you decide that you don't actually like the house you built and you start from scratch...
Any time a sim decides to view at certain pieces of art/decorations in my game I get a near constant flow of MCCC warning notifications which end up killing my game. Does anyone else have this problem? (I can’t run mod conflicter (at least I don’t think I can) cause I have a mac)
My game corrupted. Fun. So fun. So I am trying to track down CC, at least I saved all my sims in the gallery. I will start posting again after I fix everything.
