davyth’s first stop is arthur hammet’s pharmacy to drop off some prescriptions and catch up with his friend. he also purchases some cologne, because who knows when that might come in use ;) penelope keeps stanley occupied in the meantime!

he also pops into marrek‘s office for a chat, but they’re interrupted by the arrival of adele. wonder if she’s still trying to dispute the contents of blaise’s will...

it’s not the most exciting 18th birthday, but verity wasn’t in the mood for a big party. she’s managed to secure a place training with a dance troupe, and that’s all she really wanted anyway.

(the whole time i played the penhaligans verity never rolled a want to go to uni, and her bio only mentions getting into dance school, so i’m going to say that’s what her new job is!)

back at the manor, tensions have escalated between adele and hedra into a full on fight! this can’t mean anything good for the cardew family’s future at the manor. for verity, this is the final straw, and after a quick phone call to older brother carrow she packs up her things and moves out for good.

carlyon: 3rd november

next door to the morgans lives richard carlyon, an explorer taking temporary residence in polgannon while he prepares for his next archaeological trip. we’ve met him before, of course, sneaking around the penhaligan manor with adele penhaligan!

richard hasn’t been in polgannon that long - in fact he’s rarely ever in the country for long periods of time. he’s a “real indiana jones style adventurer” in margaret’s words, and would much prefer to be on a dig site right now than living the mundane everyday life of a small town. unfortunately, his expedition fund has run dry, and his hopes of persuading blaise penhaligan to sponsor his next trip have died along with him.

richard isn’t only in polgannon to secure expedition funding - it turns out he's also in a lot of gambling debt, and hiding from his financer until he can either pay him back or flee the country again! and with blaise first reticent and then deceased, he’s turned his attentions to adele as a source of money and, as we’ve seen, other activities...

despite their triple bolt chemistry, it’s clear richard’s intentions with adele are mostly a means to an end. fortunately, she too sees the fling as just a bit of fun and an escape from her ‘lady of the manor’ lifestyle. whether she sees through richard’s plan to coax some cash out of her isn’t clear at this point.
