As the person behind the initial match my donation campaign, I would like to take this time to explain how it works!
Match my donation is supposed to encourage grassroots activism! You match someone’s donation, at a reasonable amount, and spread it onto your followers! The whole point is the power in the collective, and it works in a similar vein to kickstarter or GoFundMe, so that people see that a little can go a long way when we all work together.
Rich people, I am not saying you SHOULDN’T donate a billion thousand dollars to worthy causes-- but think about why the eff you posted your receipt on your social media when you could just as easily have called in your donation privately. Your donation comes across as philanthrophy-for-performance. It’s tacky, and gross, and can actually discourage people with less from participating. Again, we’re not saying you can’t donate. We’re just asking very politely why you are hijacking a grassroots campaign for your own reputation’s sake. you don’t need the praise or attention. :) fuck off :)
So this is a call out post for Franny Robinson, Seamus MacTunnag, Lou Bonfamille, Adella Triton etc etc. Maybe pick up a phone and call next time, or just pledge to match final amounts, like Simba Lyons did? Yeesh
