i'll try to avoid reblogging from cc creators who have chosen to join the sims 4 marketplace as i am vehemently against microtransactions and paywalling mods of any kind.

i also believe that the creators are either very greedy (the kind that already make a lot from patreon and would paywall their content in a heartbeat if they could) OR they are being exploited by EA. 70/30 is CRAZY. please do not let them do that to you.

i don't know which creators are going to be on there but i will be trying to keep up with it and not reblog their things anymore.

i don’t want to be controversial but the problem is that early access should be a “paying patreons are beta testers” kind of thing and not “i’ll keep things in early access for months, here you have your pride month themed cc released in august”

the community needs to start holding creators accountable and maybe be more supportive of creators that never paywall their content at all. that’s my hot take, idk.

it seems i managed to want to get back into ts4 at the worst possible time

i don’t know what i could say here that hasn’t been already said. i only make cc very occassionally and as a hobby, so it’s always been free upon release. and while i understand early access as a model in theory i can’t say that i’ve liked the way it has panned out in practice. 

and i guess that’s the only controversial take i can share about the situation. i think the whole community bears some resonsiblity in the normalisation of monetising fan creations and the ramifications of cc being behind a paywall (even a temporary one)

namely fellow players bein left out of events because they couldn’t access cc that was relevant for a period of time and is no longer relevant by the time it’s released for free. but also the way creators that never put their content on early access being seen and treated as lesser even though their stuff is actually great while objectively poorly made cc is put on a pedastal because it’s hidden behind a perma paywall

this isn’t a definitive conclusion, just my thoughts as the situation develops.
