And see, my lack of self-esteem is telling me that you're saying that because it's true and I shouldn't have any self-esteem because I am a terrible person who says the wrong thing all the time and who should just go away.

My reason, small and quiet as it is, is trying to say that no, if anything actually it's that you could identify with it, and so - here are lots of hugs, okay, because you are awesome and I like you a lot.

Being good at endings is an amazing talent I wish I possessed. I’m rubbish at endings and that’s why I never end anything. :x

I must admit my instinct is to reassure you, but I haven't had the chance to see you end anything yet. I'm still fairly reasonably sure you're better at it than you think you are though. ;)

I remember even back in like middle school I loved to write the endings of my essays. I'd give them a nice good big flourish. :)

 If I had any advice....I think it's in the rhythm, in building up and up and then letting the fireworks go. I write in patterns, in repeating symbols and phrases and images, so at the end I try to tie all the patterns up, to go full circle and bring it all together. 

I remember writing Valley and the update telling me when it was done. Generally it was when I had reached some pivotal point, some big revelation to leave off on. Some people would get all mad about my cliffhangers, lol.

I've noticed I get upset when movies and songs don't end correctly. Like Lincoln should have ended with him walking off to the theater. It didn't need the shooting and him dying in the bed. Everyone knows what happened. To just leave it at him walking off to the theater, everyone in the audience knowing he was going to his death....that would have been powerful. That would have been right.

Or the song Party Rock Anthem. It needs another "Every day I'm shuffling" at the end to tie it all up, and it annoys me so much that I'll just sing the line myself to properly end the song, lol.

I don't know how it works for other people, but for me it just seems like a natural instinctive grasp of patterns and timing. I honestly think that listening to so much music for all my life has a lot to do with my writing, and that I've absorbed a lot about rhythm from music. Plus I am descended from a community that takes its music damn seriously, and my father was a well-regarded guitar player in that community. My mother says that Round Peak music is in my blood. She said once "I bet you could play that music if you was ever around it." I said "I do play it. On my keyboard." ;)

Seriously though, reading these stories - I think I have a chance. I'm trying to not get my hopes up, but I think I have a chance. And I know that with some more practice, some more work, some more effort and trying and sobbing and feels and pain and joy and everything, I could be equal to and better than the good parts of these stories. :)
