And that was that, wasn’t it? You never sought me out and I never found the words to apologize, so life went on.
The thesis project got me a full grade and ultimately, my degree. I graduated with honors. My family couldn’t have been more proud. I couldn’t have been more focused on my next steps.
I'm actually freaked out, good job Kit. Ouija boards freak me the heck out and the gif actually made me jump! Just give me MORE.
EEE! Thank you! I’ve been really worried about this part in general |D I am... not really a horror writer, but I wanted to try a little. Just a little.
There’s a bit more with the board tonight but then its goin’ away for a while (probs forever)..... Tbh they freak me out too.
IDK if I’ve told this horror story on here before, but IN YE OLDE HIGH SCHOOL DAYS: I joked with some friends at lunch one time about wanting to try a ouija board, and this kid who.... had a crush on me, but lived like two towns over.... walked to my house (which... I didn’t tell him where I lived) and left a ouija board in my mailbox.
Without telling me.
So you can imagine my horror when I went to get the mail and a fucking OUIJA BOARD WAS THERE.
I grew up loved by my family. My siblings welcomed me into the home. There was no hostility. My brothers were just as protective and my sister was finally glad to have another girl in the house. Honestly, my childhood seems like the model of perfection. I shouldn’t have any complaints…
Another couple of years passed and my family continued to grow. My mother was so openhearted that she was pleased when the chance came to take in another child. And so my sister was welcomed into the family with open arms.
All of my siblings helped me discover more about myself and my interests and they encouraged me toward the arts. My parents, while not discouraging, tried to sway me toward hobbies that would become more…money endearing. But math and science weren’t of interest to me. No, early on I realized what I loved most: color.
“Come on, Nova, does this shirt match my shoes?”
“Hm.”
“I don’t like the sound of that. What’s that mean?”
“It means I can think of 3 other pairs of shoes in your closet that would match better with a different shirt. Let me show you your options…”
I loved drawing, painting, and most of all: fashion.
My family was finally perfect. Life settled down. My parents settled in to their new domestic life. Everything was as it should have been. The family portrait was complete.
Time passed and my parents opened their hearts again to another little boy. They said they took one look at Phoenix and knew he belonged in our family. He looked ever so much like my father, it didn’t even feel like adoption. It just felt like he was coming home.
