the sky had quickly begun to turn coal-black, but all of the guests were still milling about the house. after the whirl of greetings, laughter, music and food had been today, peppa decided she would get a bit of fresh air. she had been working like a little elf you would find in santa’s workshop for the past couple of days, with red’s birthday and the party - not that she regretted any of it one bit. however, as she stepped through the front doors onto the porch, she heard the low mumblings of josh and olivia. the young couple had seemed to keep themselves mostly to themselves during the party, but had talked to plenty of the guests in passing. peppa had but exchanged only a few words with them, and upon seeing them, immediately slipped back into the charming host role she had enjoyed playing all afternoon.
‘hey, what are you guys doing out here? you must be freezing!’ peppa called, grabbing the couple’s attention.
‘oh, nothing really!’ olivia tittered, ‘just having a quick breather, a bit of time to ourselves.’
‘it’s no problem, don’t worry! i do it sometimes too. having the back porch look straight onto onto the river can be really soothing...’ peppa recalled, thinking of all the times she’d been out there with friends, family or even by herself.
‘it really is beautiful, especially with the snow! olivia and i were just talking about it - see we had a summer wedding, but we wondering what we would have done differently if we’d had it, well, now...’ josh said.
‘wait, you got married this summer?’ she realised, ‘ah congrats! it seems ages ago since canton and i tied the knot... but i can remember how exciting it is to be newly-weds!’
‘yeah!’ both olivia and josh laughed in unison. it was obvious that they were linked, meant to be together.
‘well, if you were having it right now, i can imagine the songs for the reception would be a bit tricky to pick...’ noted peppa.
‘oh yeah - do you have a few christmas hits or not?’ olivia recognised.
‘hmmmm... maybe a few, but not too many - it’s meant to be a celebration of our wedding right, not christmas,’ josh deduced.
‘i agree,’ peppa nodded, ‘the question is, which christmas songs? gotta please the masses -’
‘definitely fairytale of new york! that one is anyone and everyone can sing well, even if you’re drunk!’ exclaimed olivia. peppa joined in with the same enthusiasm:
‘yeah. that’s a classical! maybe all i want for christmas is you too?’ she suggested.
‘aww, that would be adorable!’ olivia replied, looking puppy-eyed at josh. he laughed in response and said:
‘both very good ideas. ummmm, maybe.... it’s beginning to look a lot like christmas?’. the girls exchanged puzzled looks.
‘why?’ smirked olivia.
‘um... i like it?’ he responded.
‘okay, then! sounds great to me!’ she said, and the three of them erupted into laughter.
