gianni, what was your first impression of rooney?

She was like a freight train; she knocked the wind out of me. Here was this sudden, foreign girl in the middle of my hometown, perched precariously on a fountain, reading The Martian Chronicles (for the 7th time, she would later tell me.) It felt like another plane of reality. I pretended I couldn’t speak English just so I would have time to gather my thoughts and say something impressively witty to her to gain her affection.

(I didn’t, but for some reason she decided she liked me anyway.)

rooney, how do you expect it to be your future?

I’ve never had a clear vision for myself in any kind of future, really…even when I was little, I thought I’d just be little forever. Not that the future scares me! It’s just it’s always seemed mysterious to me…which is probably the way it should be. Nowadays I just kind of hope I turn into a Ghibli character when I get old. Like old and fat and kind, living off a prosperous garden and handing out loaves of fresh baked bread to the neighbor kids. Maybe with a dog or a cat or a couple grandchildren. Who knows. Maybe I’m a witch in this future…that’d be pretty cool. I could put a hex on the rabbits that eat my cabbages…but not really ‘cause I love rabbits.

Thanks for all these comments on my manicure! I so often see nail art that I love but am not (yet) capable of executing, so it’s really gratifying to hear all these nice compliments on what I am able to do.
