Hello! I noticed when you followed me recently and I did get a chance to check out your blog as well! I’m looking forward to sitting down and get a chance to really read some of the things you’ve written! Thanks so much for reaching out!
So to answer your question~
I am very loosely following the original rules found on the sims forums here.
I also did a little post about my “version” of the commune challenge if you’re interested in reading it. You can find that post here!
If you’re interested in starting your own commune challenge, you can always use one of the communes I’ve built~ I’ve posted one of them here (windenburg)
But really, I’m just having fun with it and creating my own “rules” and story as I go! If you’re interested in starting your own commune challenge and need some tips or have any questions, feel free to shoot me a message or another ask and I’ll do my very best to help out!❤
I would like to start by saying that the commune challenge is not my idea. The original rules for the challenge can be found here. This is just a bunch of my suggestions for the commune challenge in the style that I do mine. Obviously it’s going to be a bit long so I’ve put it under the cut~
This challenge is a lot of fun and has honestly been one of the best things I’ve ever done in the sims 4. If you don’t mind playing with a lot of sims (my commune household is almost always full) and you like to watch sims be sims, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this challenge a shot!
Getting Started:
- Create a founder/leader for your commune (can be any gender, human or non-human, etc) I didn’t choose any particular traits for my commune members, but some ideas are creative, vegetarian, loves outdoors, etc. Since your commune is what YOU make it, try to create a founder that will influence the commune as it grows.
- Purchase an empty lot in any neighborhood. I suggest beginning with a 20x30 lot to start with, since it’s a manageable size and it’s easier to keep track of your sims that way.
- You may choose to start your lot with only one tent, or if you prefer, you may fully furnish your lot using the 20k simoleans as some kind of inheritance, selling all possessions, gift from fairy godmother, etc. Once your commune is furnished, it’s time to add some followers!
- Basic rules for the commune are: No members can have jobs outside the commune. The commune must produce something to make money, it could be anything sell-able (art, selling songs, woodworking, garden produce, etc) I personally chose to keep my commune as technology free as possible, but that’s just my own rule. Feel free to create your own commune “rules” to help keep your challenge fun!
Growing your Commune:
- New members should be recruited by the most recent addition to the commune. Obviously, since your Leader will be the only member, it’s up to them to recruit the next member, who will then be responsible for recruiting the next member and so on.
- Obviously, any new prospective members should know what they’re getting into! You must invite them to your commune at least once (to show them where they’ll be living!) and you should also introduce them to your commune Leader as well so they can size up the new recruit. Once you’ve done those things you may ask them to move in! Give them a tent and maybe some furniture so they can get comfy and enjoy the new addition to your commune!
Building your Commune - A few tips:
- For the first commune, I downloaded this lot from the sims 4 gallery. The original lot is by SoulGal7 and is called the Artist’s Colony. I changed it a bit for my commune, but the general structure remained basically the same. I’ve showed the general layout and the basic areas below:
- The second commune lot (I like to call it Oasis Camp to distinguish between the two camps) was built 100% by me. As you can see, I’ve added a few things to fill out the space a bit, and I’ve also moved the camp to a 40x30 lot to accommodate 8 sims.
- I’ve also built a vampire commune as well, and obviously it’s in Forgotten Hollow. A commune in this location might be a real challenge, since vampire sims fry in the sunlight! As you can see, I’ve followed the same general layout. I also tried to leave a little room for this commune (cult?) to grow.
- I really like building these lots! I encourage you to build your commune to fit the neighborhood you are building it in! I may upload a few of my commune lots onto the gallery, and if I do I’ll also link them on tumblr. If you’re having trouble building a particular lot, feel free to message me and maybe I can take a shot at it!
Hopefully this guide is helpful and not a bunch of rambling nonsense. Obviously if you have questions, you are welcome to message me or send me an ask. From this point forward, any commune challenge asks/replies/tips will be tagged #simmingbeecommunechallengeguide so that it’s all neat and tidy.
This challenge is all about what you make it! Have fun, and let your sims direct your gameplay! Also watch out for fires! <3
