Currently ruminating over the fact that Lucy’s candle didn’t fully go out until Simon realized he was Lady Ruth’s grandson and Jamie’s nephew.

She had nothing left in her by the end of Carry On but she’s was still clinging on, still fighting for her Rosebud boy.

And the thing that let her move on? That he finally realized he was home.

“Not that I want you to tell her, but,’ he stops, takes a deep breath and the line goes so silent I think we’ve been disconnected. I’m about to check as he starts up again. “But I think. Fuck. Then we—”

“No.”

"I'm just saying—“”

“Well don’t,” I say sharply, angry that my brain is already trying to fill in the gaps from the unspoken words. “That’s one unfairness too far.”

”Yeah,” he says, sadness dripping from the end of the word like a tear. “I’m sorry. Still, don’t like, make it a point to tell her. That would fuck shit up pretty bad.”

”I wasn’t planning on it.”

HAPPY 10 WHOLE YEARS OF CARRY ON!!!

This book... where do I even start?? Its been a huge influence on me since it came out, as a queer person and a fan of fantasy I can say quite clearly its my favourite book trilogy, and has even influenced the way I want to write. So thank you Rainbow! Enjoy many more years of the Wayward Sons!

Here are some out-of-context crumbs of writing from my SnowBaz fanfic Cat and Mouse, from various scenes and POVs because part 3 is (sort of) rapidly approaching your location.

The fic is a multi-POV story, which means that these snippets could be from anyone's perspective, if you'd like to play a game of who's saying what and in what situation :)

There are potential spoilers underneath the cut. They're all mostly vague, but still, proceed with caution if you'd prefer zero spoilers!!!

Crumb #1:

My face warms. I feel as though I’m eavesdropping on the wrong conversation. On one of Keris and Trixie’s infamous slumber parties and their overindulgence of Phillippa Stainton’s parasocial (hallucinatory) relationship with her life-size cutout of Zayn Malik. When she’s trying not to gush about her crush on Simon in front of me, that is.

Crumb #2:

Simon turns his head so sharply I think he might snap his neck. “Can star signs tell you much about that?”

“About what?” I ask, and dear Merlin, do I already regret it.

“Personality,” he says. “Motives. Hidden sides of a person—secrets.”

“Eight snakes, Simon. You make it sound like a criminal investigation.”

Crumb #3:

Snow and his circus monkeys are sitting several tables down in the dining hall, repeating my name in increasingly feverish tones and with increasingly crude hand gestures. (In every variation—I counted several Baz’s, a few Basil’s, and one resoundingly exhausted Basilton from Bunce.) If they’d only said the name Basil, I’d have thought they were just passionately debating Italian herbs.

Crumb #4:

“No way I’m going down there.” 

“Not afraid of the dark, are you?”

“Not a fan of being down there with you.” I narrow my eyes. “Why even tag along? Don’t you have your coattails to press?” Better yet, I wanted to snap at him, don’t you have my girlfriend to steal?

“It’s disappointing to think what the world is coming to. Can’t two men share an intimate evening in the Catacombs without someone throwing a fuss?”
