Happy birthday to Catherine and Simon, our newest adults! It was so special to celebrate them on our vacation to Willow Creek.

Catherine is still working away with her babysitting jobs. Charlotte has been thinking about taking a position as a nanny while she waits for her husband, and it seems Catherine has latched onto that idea as well. She can be very industrious when she wants to be (in addition to her usual impulsivity, messiness, and highmindedness, of course). I just wish she directed some of that drive at doing her chores, looking after her younger siblings, or mingling with the young men at Brindleton Bay Baptist! She was our first child who didn't graduate early from homeschool and she had a very hard time when it ended. Even now that she's an adult, she's still doing lessons in old workbooks and fooling around with online videos about history! I would suggest she take a Bible course at our local Christian college, but with where Catherine is at right now, I think encouraging her towards nannying is the wiser decision. I'm always praying that my children will choose the right path in life!

Simon has just begun an internship at a Christian media company. On the weekends, he's pursuing his dream of family-friendly comedy. He's done a few gigs here and there, and has over twenty thousand followers on his social media! When he's not working or rehearsing his routines, he's spending time with a special someone: his friend Mackenzie Robinson! She's not courting age yet, so no dates for them. They’re just getting to know each other in group settings so they can decide if they're right for each other a few years down the line. Still very exciting!

Another birthday! This time, it's Catherine and Simon. These two were born on New Year's Day and were truly a new start for our family. Colin had just lost his job the year before, money was tight, and we decided to use birth control to limit the size of our family even though we knew in our hearts it was a sin. Thankfully God had other plans and he gave us not one but two beautiful babies to show us the error of our ways. We gave them the middle names "Dawn" and "Newman" as a nod to the redemption and renewal we received through their birth.

Fast forward to now, and they are both teenagers! Time really flies. Catherine is a very smart young lady with some big dreams. We are working on crafting more realistic ambitions in line with God's plan for women but who knows when we'll get there. Often I have to remind her to do her chores or to check in with her younger siblings—she always has her nose in a book or her hands all over the chessboard, and when that happens, it’s like she’s in her own little world! As she grows, I am prayerful she develops as much of a burden for children as her older sisters have. We are most definitely working on it!

Simon on the other hand has no problem with God's plan for his life. He's the comedian of the family, and can sometimes push boundaries with his jokes, but all in all he's a good boy with a heart for the Lord. In recent days, he’s shared with Colin and I that it would be "really cool" if he could make his love for comedy into a (Christ-centered) career. We'll see how that goes—Simon certainly enjoys hamming it up in the talking heads he does for Follow the Wagners, and according to viewing metrics, our audience finds him quite charming! It would be wonderful to see one of our children following in our footsteps by using entertainment as a way to spread the Word. But either way, I know he has a bright future ahead of him. I can't wait to see how the Lord uses him as well as Catherine for His plans!

On tonight's episode of Follow the Wagners...

Stephen: The best thing about living in this family… there’s always enough people for a game of kickball. If our Mom allows us. A lot of the time she's scared our clothes will be all messed up. And the worst thing? Probably waiting for the bathroom in the morning.

Cierra Joy: We only have two bathrooms for 17 people! And one of them is attached to our parents' room!

Caleb: My favorite thing about my family is my sister, Catherine.

Sienna: …and in the morning, there’s always a line on the landing upstairs, ‘cause Momma doesn’t think it’s right for the big kids to use her and Daddy’s bathroom.
