wagnerfamily Happy birthday to the ANGEL of the Wagner family: Stella! This girl...I am such a lucky mom to have a daughter who is so beautiful and Godly! She takes such good care of herself and always does the right thing, whether it's at home, at church, or in the world. Stella has been the most helpful soul since the moment she could walk. Every time I look at her she's comforting a younger sibling, or tidying some room, or filling our home with beautiful music. Just recently, she was kind enough to be the "date" of a boy from our church's youth group who asked her to the quarterly social. Of course, she's far too young for a real courtship, but since it was in a group setting, Colin and I encouraged her to go in order to avoid hurting the young man's feelings. Sweet Stella was so concerned when we brought up how ashamed he might be if he were rejected that she immediately agreed to attend with him! Isn't she such a doll? She was baptized youngest out of all her siblings, and looking at her now, that's no surprise! What a credit to our family she is. Happy birthday with love from Mom/Sophia!

Dear Stelly,

Happy birthday! I'm so excited to be teenagers with you. You're so kind and positive and fun. I wish I was more like you. I'm not, but it's okay, because you're here. I still laugh whenever I remember the look on Toby Schrader's face after you made him stop being mean to Carrie. What a ridiculous little boy.

You're the best person I know. (For the Toby Schrader thing and a million more reasons.) Don't tell anyone, but you're definitely my favorite sibling too.

Today I led Charlotte and some of my teens in an activity designed to get them thinking about their future spouses! Since Sienna already has a special friend in Michael from Willow Creek and Simon in Mackenzie Robinson, they were excused. The rest of us had a wonderful evening that centered the sanctity of marriage!

If I get married, I would want my husband to still be my friend. I don’t want him to be just a stranger I live with. And he’ll help me clean up after coffee & cake hour on Sundays. I won’t be like Sadie, fawning over someone as incompetent as her four-year-old. I won’t submit to a husband who can’t even lead. My future husband has to have a good heart. I might like it if he was a pastor or something like that. Maybe a doctor. Someone who helps people, and by being his wife, I could help him help people. I hope he has a nice smile. And I hope he’ll use a gentle voice with our children and never raise a hand in anger against them. They’ll feel the love around them every single day and it won’t matter what kind of person God makes them, because they’ll know we’ll always…

Stella: Sienna? What's wrong?

Sienna: [sniffling] Oh! Um, nothing. Sorry, Stelly.

Stella: What is it?

Sienna: I--

Stella: I won't tell anyone!

Sienna: You promise?

Stella: Yeah, I promise.

Sienna: ...okay. I got in trouble again with Mom. Because of my atti--[sniffling] "attitude problem."

Stella: Your what?

Sienna: "Attitude problem." It means I don't have a joyful countenance always. But I can't...can't...I don't know how.

Stella: Oh. Well...maybe you can pray that Jesus will make you happy? He makes me happy.

Sienna: Yeah, I guess. But even when I pray Mom doesn't like it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Stella: Oh. [thinking] I'll pray for you, Nini. So you don't have to worry about messing up. And...and...you don't need to have a joyful, um, countenze with me. So you can save your joyful countenze energy for Momma.

Sienna: [sniffling] Thanks.

Dear Diary,

I don't know what to do so I'm writing everything here. Then maybe I'll come up with some ideas.

It's Sunday, so we went to church this morning. After Sunday School me and everyone went to play in the garden. "Everyone" means Caleb and Sienna and Cierra Joy and Claire and Shep and Caroline (but not the babies because they were in the nursery) and a bunch of other kids who are in our Sunday School classes. Including Victor Keller. He is so mean. Caleb and me were on the swings when Victor came up and dared him to kiss Eva Parker, and when Caleb refused, Victor laughed and called him a mean name and said maybe Caleb wanted to kiss him instead. What?? I was trying to think of something to say but Caleb just got up and went back inside before I could decide what to say. I could tell he was upset, but he didn't want anyone to see. I only noticed because he's my brother and I know him better than almost anyone. After Caleb left Victor went back to hanging out with his friends, but not before he told me that I shouldn't cry when Caleb had to go to "True Directions."

When we got home I asked Catherine what "True Directions" was but she just looked sad and wouldn't tell me. So it's definitely bad. I guess it has to do with Caleb and Eva Parker. I think Momma and Daddy are worried that he doesn't want to kiss Eva Parker or maybe any girl, because I overheard them talking about it last month. They were saying how all of us talk about crushes with each other, except for Caleb, and maybe it's "just the cooties phase" or maybe it's "something else." I don't know what "something else" is but I guess it's a pretty big deal. Or maybe it isn't. Momma and Daddy get really upset about lots of things that I don't think God would be so upset about if He loved us that much. So we'll see what happens. But if Victor Keller comes back to insult Caleb next Sunday I'm definitely going to say something. It's not fair that Caleb's feelings were hurt just for not wanting to kiss a girl.

OK. I have to go to bed now, even though I don't have many ideas yet. Tomorrow we are making brownies for the monthly Youth Social at church, which will be fun. And I have to take notes on John 13 for Wednesday evening Bible study. So I better get some rest.

Our daughter Stella has joined her closest sisters in childhood! This little girl is, without a doubt, a light and a blessing in our lives—truly our little lamb! At such a young age she's already everything a girl should be: meek, caring, obedient and most importantly devoted to God!! Most of our children don't get baptized until they're between 6 and 12, but this little girl first professed her faith at age THREE and was baptized only a year later! I am so proud to have raised a child so loud about her faith and I can't wait to see where the Lord takes her.

On the series premiere of Follow The Wagners...

Next we have the second set of Wagner twins! That's right, folks: the Wagners saw double...double! At seven years old, Catherine and Simon spend a lot of time wandering outside. That's certainly not how all families do it, but the Wagner children are an independent group! Just a year younger than them we also have Caleb, who's about as easygoing as they come. He's always willing to make a friend, and surprisingly good at knowing his audience!

Sienna, Cierra and Stella aren't triplets...but they sure are close in age! Four-year-old Sienna came first, followed by almost-four-year-old Cierra Joy just 10 months later. And then there's Stella, who joined the family exactly one year, two weeks and two days later--yes, we counted.

Finally, we've made it to the last three! For now, that is. Claire and Shepherd--another set of twins, oh yes--have just reached one and a half. Their main hobby is screaming their little lungs out, and it looks like their newborn baby sister Caroline is following in their footsteps.
