(Gifted) Lights! Camera! Alice! By Mara Rockliff and illustrated by Simona Ciraolo . This has to be one of my favourite non-fiction/picture books of the year! I hadn’t heard of Alice Guy-Blaché, and after reading this picture book I can’t believe I didn’t know about her! There are so many women empowerment books and inspirational women books that have come out this year, and it’s such a shame this first female filmmaker wasn’t included (As far as I know). I hope Abrams and Chronicle might turn this into a series about lesser known female trailblazers. It seems that many of the anthologies out there tend to repeat many of the same stories, and it would be nice to have picture books on lesser known individuals so more content can be dedicated to them! .
