I know you guys know what you're talking about -- I wouldn't keep following if I thought otherwise. ;D I just feel like there's more than one way to skin the proverbial cat, and you don't always talk about those alternatives. I'm down with the meta, but I think part of that is doing things which are unexpected or outside the norm. Yknow, MIND GAMES. Do I just have this opinion because I'm a pub scrub and I don't even realize it? Where do you guys play when you're not in competitive matches?

THE WAY I SEE IT, TF2 IS KIND OF LIKE A BASKETBALL COURT.

PUB PLAY IS LIKE WHEN A COUPLE OF PEOPLE KIND OF CONGREGATE AROUND IT, IDLY SHOOTING HOOPS AND PLAYING HORSE OR SOMETHING. PLAYING LIKE THIS IS OFTEN WHERE PEOPLE HAVE THE MOST FUN, JUST HANGING OUT AND SHOOTING SOME HOOPS WITH FRIENDS. THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE MOST COMMONLY DO.

PUB LOBBIES, AKA COMPETITIVE STYLE GAMEPLAY STILL OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, LIKE TF2CENTER.COM, ARE LIKE WHEN A COUPLE OF PEOPLE CONGREGATE AND AN ACTUAL GAME OF PICKUP BASKETBALL GETS ORGANIZED- THERE’S NOW RULES TO BE FOLLOWED, BUT AN ACTUAL GAME TO BE PLAYED AS WELL.

ACTUAL COMPETITIVE PLAY, LIKE IN LEAGUES, IS MORE AKIN TO AN NBA GAME ON THAT COURT. YOU’RE PLAYING BASKETBALL NOW, BOYS.

THIS ISN’T TO SAY THAT ANY ONE OR THE OTHER IS BAD! THERE’S NO RIGHT WAY TO PLAY TF2. THERE’S A COMMONLY AGREED UPON WAY, AND THAT’S THE META OF THE GAME AND THE LARGEST CROWD TO PANDER TO FOR A BLOG LIKE THIS, BUT IT IS IN NO POSSIBLE WAY THE ONLY AUDIENCE. 

I’VE BEEN PLAYING A LOT OF PUB LOBBIES LATELY, SO I’VE GOT THE COMPETITIVE FORMAT ON THE MIND MORE THAN I USED TO, SO ANY REAL ADVICE I GIVE MAY BE ONLY USEFUL FOR META-DOMINATED GAMEPLAY. 

AS WE’VE SAID CONSISTENTLY BEFORE, TAKE ALL OF OUR ADVICE WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. ANALYZE IT, APPLY IT TO YOUR OWN SKILLSET AND PLAYSTYLE, AND DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT IT’S USEFUL TO YOU PERSONALLY.
