Here’s a repost from one of my favorite drawings I did last year. This is a freehand colored pencil drawing I did of model @simonedawndk from a photo by @gmh__photography last October. I actually drew this almost entirely vertical, and I felt like it really helped me find the shape and detail. Some may have seen this last week when she or the original photographer of the source photo, @gmh__photography shared it, but here’s the progression video for my freehand colored pencil drawing of @simonedawndk. I drew it in graphite pencil and then went in with colored pencil. The image is horizontal but I drew the whole picture vertically. It was a lot of fun to do and one of my new favorite drawings. Almost a year ago, I was doing a series of quicker sketches of different people and I decided to do a sketch of model @simeonedawndk - She actually liked it and I’ve been kicking around the idea of doing a more detailed drawing of her at some point. Recently, she posted a photo taken by photographer @gmh__photography and I was especially taken by the lighting and the rich color, so I kept it in mind for the future. One really late night last week, I had pulled an all nighter working at a computer and decided to do a new, quick sketch before bed. I grabbed a 4H @staedtlermars graphite pencil and sketched out this drawing before bed. I thought about it and decided it’d be criminal not to at least try it in color... So, the next day, I erased the pencil and went in with colored pencils. I actually really like how it turned out! (Which almost never happens). And funny thing...
