#Repost @natgeo with @repostapp ・・・ Photograph by @simonnorfolkstudio On this day (19th March) in 2015 the Yemeni crisis descended into Civil War when army units loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh attacked Aden airport. The airport was defended by soldiers supporting Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, Yemen's internationally recognised president. According to the UN in the months to January this year over 16,200 people have been killed in Yemen, including 10,000 civilians. The dry and arid lands of Yemen are interspersed with seasonal river valleys along which towns and villages have been long established. These river valleys are called “wadis” and many places are built along them for the water. Here a view of Wadi Daw'an, noted for its towering mud brick buildings, also the ancestral home of the Bin Laden family.
