17. Are there any motifs or symbols associated with the character? How are they represented, in their design, personality or in some other way?
Uuuuh that's a tough one. Seeing as I try to keep my human characters more on the realistic side, I don't really pay too much attention to motif or symbolism. I just want my characters to feel like actual people even if they may lose a few points on the coolness scale for that xD
However that doesn't mean I don't connect any motif or imagery to him (his inspo page shows that quite well) I'd say what I associate with him is very close to what Simon himself associates with his general aesthetic or personality.
Basically anything otherworldly and/ or cosmic. Celestial bodies, cosmic horror/ phenomena beyond human comprehension, the uncanny Valley, science fiction. I think that also inspires his general style quite a bit as well: occult, cybergoth...ish with some dark boho elements.

How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?
If it's only Mel we're talking about....not very far.
He generally tends to take what he perceives as the path of least resistance in almost any situation and wouldn't really go beyond that unless he really really really had to.

Not really. (tbh none of my characters have an actual face claim apart from Lyall partially)
I did sort of implement certain attributes of fictional characters or people I know/ have seen somewhere in both her style and facial features tho...just not enough to really call it a face claim.
Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim vs the World for example is a character I very loosely based her on.

What is the worst thing you have put your OC through story-wise?
(small tw for transphobia just in case)
Most of the answers here would be too much of a spoiler so I'm just gonna go with one thing, which is the fact that his relationship with his mother suffered quite a lot under his transition.
It's not like she disowned him or broke contact or anything like that, but she still has a lot of trouble becoming adjusted to it, which naturally causes a lot of tensions between them at times.
Part of me would love to just say "fuck it" and have his mother be 100% accepting and supportive but sadly that is not always the reality.

What's an AU that would be interesting to explore with your OC?
One AU I would really love to explore more is the storyline of Mabon and @drawing-way-outside-the-lines' Caspian.
I like to think this AU is kinda...sorta what could come to be if Volatile was an interactive story (à la Life is Strange) and Mel/the Player made all the worst possible choices one could make.
I personally really like to dabble in this AU because:
a) I can just fuck around without much thought for plot and coherence
b) I love Caspian and his dynamic with Mabon.
and c) it allows me to explore a more unhinged side of Mabon.
Seriously I feel like guy has so much potential to be an amazing villain, but that part of him would never have a place in the canon for various reasons...nor would I really want it to be canon so...yeah....AU it is.

His mouth. Might be a strange answer but Simon isn't really a super handy or crafty person, the thing he values the most about himself are his thoughts and how he expresses them. He's also a singer in a band which is another important form of self expression to him.

I'm not super well versed on Tarot Cards but I would probably say The Star.
The general meaning of the upright star, moving away from a hurtful past, reinventing yourself and being more inspired, balanced and in tune with the universe fits Simon to a tee. Being a troubled teenager with a lot of dislike for himself and the world he basically became a completely new person after moving away from home and starting hormone therapy. It was a challenge but he's reached a point where he's at peace with himself.

1) Although Simon is gay he's had relationships and flings with women in the past. It took him quite a while to come to terms with his sexuality and he's still not quite sure whether he figured it out entirely.
2) He drinks around 6-8 cups of coffee per day. It's not that he feels like he really needs that much, frankly he doesn't really feel a difference in energy he just really likes the taste and at this point it's such a fundamental part of his day that he couldn't imagine going without it. He usually drinks it black but adds cinnamon and or honey if he feels like it.
3) Although he's not crazy about children and doesn't plan on having any in the near future, he's really good with children. His two nephews adore him and quite literally cling to him during every family gathering. I think it's mainly the fact that he doesn't act fake or talk down to kids, and tries to meet them on eye level that draws them to him.
4) In the story he's currently working as a care assistent in a nursing home. And while he doesn't hate the job and enjoys working with most of the residents it's still quite draining to him at times and he's suffering under how much the job and the irregular shifts have been limiting his hobbies and social life, which makes him slowly but surely start to question his career choice.
5) Simon in general enjoys physical intimacy. He respects other people's boundaries but if he likes somebody (platonic or not) he likes to express it through physical gestures (like hugs, touching the back or shoulders, generally being physically close to the person)

3. How would they fare in a zombie apocalypse?
Honestly, I feel like he'd be the Jack of all trades in the group, makeshift medic and caretaker thanks to previous experiences as a healthcare assistant, possibly capable at keeping the morale of the group high (he'd totally be a group person) and while having no clue about weapons he'd still be able to kick ass if he had to (the guy knows Krav Maga after all)
Although he would try to avoid having to attack anyone, zombie or not, his conscience would still suffer so he'd probably stick to a more supportive role.
7. Have they committed a crime before? Which one(s)?
Apart from the fact that he pirated photoshop, various music plugins and a few sample packs in the past, and the occasional taking public transport without a ticket he has a clean slate.
15. How would they describe themselves?
Simon: "I wouldn't. I'm me, that's all you need to know . Feel free to paint your own picture from there."
16. How would others describe them?
It really depends on the person. Truth is he gives off very different impressions depending on his surroundings and how well the people in question actually know him.
People who don't know him well might describe him as very confident, a bit vain, kinda unfazed about everything, low-key intimidating.
While people who know him better would probably describe him as more of a lovable odd ball, funny, intelligent, serene, and yet full of life. Very complex and yet authentic. You get what you see but what you see might not always be that easy to figure out.
Others again might describe him as a very insecure individual who hides himself behind this perfect persona he has created for himself.
36. What’s their favorite thing about themselves?
The thoughts that are floating around in his head... and his sweet style. Although he'd probably say the latter as more of a joke he means it xD
38. If they hear something go bump in the night, do they get out of bed to check it out or do they stay put?
Depends. He'd probably check with a healthy amount of caution if he has no idea what's going on. He can defend himself if push comes to shove. If he can somewhat assess the situation and realize it's too much for him to take on he will stay put and let the cops handle it.
39. What’s one skill they wish they had?
He's lowkey jealous of Serena for being able to draw. He's not super skilled with a pencil, like at all.
40. What do other people find annoying about them, if anything?
One thing that people tend to find annoying about him is that you can't really argue with him. That might not seem like a downside but imagine you're very passionate about your point of view but the opposition just calmly explains to you why they think you're wrong but it's cool cuz you do you... ALL THE TIME. Without even giving you an opportunity to defend your point or fight for it. It kind of makes you even more frustrated than you were to begin with.
(Serena had to resist the urge to literally shake him on multiple occasions when they had a disagreement.)
41. What do other people love most about them?
That he meets people on eye level.
I don't know if that makes sense but unless you give him a very good reason not to, he will have the same respect for you that he has for himself.
59. What motivates them?
1) The fact that he has come as far as he has, because truth be told there was a time when he wasn't sure he'd make it this far in life
And 2) That might be a daft answer but...just living life to the fullest.
Wanting to gain as much experience as he can. Seeing as much of what life has to offer as he can. Both positive and negative. He doesn't really wanna leave too many stones unturned before his time is up.

E) Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you?
I'd like to think we'd get along well, I but honestly...I'm not sure. I feel like we'd be a bit like two magnets with the same pole.
Besides Mel has the tendency to look for more dominant and confident people than him that can get him to come out of his shell. I think that's a contrast he needs to actually warm up to someone.
2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?
It depends. Generally Mel isn't really the type to laugh per se. He's more the type to snort or give a light chuckle when something amuses him. Him actually laughing out loud is something that is difficult for him and that happens quite rarely.
10. What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them?
Mel doesn't really lie if he can avoid it, apart from the occasional white lie. He's more prone to just withhold things.
Most frequently that was the case shortly before he ran away from the residental home he lived in with Serena and Roy, he didn't tell anyone about how he was struggling mentally at the time, mainly because he was confused about it and feared judgement, until he couldn't conceal the severity of his mental state anymore which caused pretty strong tensions between him and Roy (sorry for keeping it so vague, but that'll have to do for now)
That does haunt him quite a bit, in fact he knows had he been more open and seeked proper help during that time a lot of things in his life would have turned for the better.
31. Who are they the most glad to have met?
Serena, definitely. A few years ago he would have said her and Roy but at this point he deeply regrets meeting him, also for Roy's sake.
Mabon
11. How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)?
If the confusion directly affects him, he will seek clarification first and foremost. However he would do so while basically belittling who or whatever confused him.

Oooff, I don't think so. He's more...how do I put this...incredibly uncooperative when it comes to doing tasks he himself deems unnecessary or doesn't want to do.
He's the kinda guy that would clean the entire fucking flat if he's bored enough, and he doesn't mind getting his hands dirty to achieve his goals...in contrast however if somebody *coughs*Serena*coughs* would ask him to get up and get the remote from a meter away he probably couldn't be arsed....you get the picture...

18. What embarrasses them?
Simon is not the type to embarass easily, quite the contrary. Even Uli can't get him to embarass and god knows he tried. I like to think so at least xD
I think the one thing that can embarass him or make him uncomfortable is starting drama or conflict over him, which has happened in the past.
23. How does envy manifest itself in them (they take what they want, they become resentful, etc)?
Nothing like that. He used to be quite envious and bitter when he was younger, which mainly stemmed from a deep dissatisfaction with himself. Every now and then it still shines through. But he's found a good way to deal with it is just trying his best to be happy for the person, and expressing that. It somehow makes the feeling of envy almost nonexistent for him.
Roy
6. Do they consider laws flexible, or immovable?
Roy thinks laws are made for a good reason, and he doesn't really doubt the justice system. I dare to say if you chose a career path with the police that's probably a given, at least to some.
However I think one reason for that is that he's had the privilege so far of being spared from experiencing what it's like if the justice system fails you.
12. How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach?
He'd probably try to ignore it at first and if push comes to shove (and if no ones looking) use a pen or ruler or something similar to help him out
Dolores
36. Do they actively seek romance, or do they wait for it to fall into their lap?
Dolores is very passive when it comes to romantic interactions of any kind . Part of her is still caught up in this delusion that her Prince Charming will show up to woo her one day. The other part thinks she isn't good enough for anyone anyway so she wouldn't even dare to make advances with anyone. So yeah, she's kinda waiting for it to fall into her lap, but even if that were to happen chances are she wouldn't realize.
Roland

B What inspired you to create them?
Honestly...I'm not entirely sure. Roland is one of these characters that sorta created himself and I just kinda rolled with it...get it? Rolled...?

The initial reason for his creation was that I felt like Mel was lacking a "parental figure" of sorts. And to be quite honest I felt like I was lacking a parental figure in the story as well to express certain things I wanted to express.
20. If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so?
He'd probably need a lot of of time to think of a good answer. In fact I doubt that he would really come up with something apart from "You're asking the wrong person mate" and a shrug.
The way he sees it...I doubt he would say it like that though.. is that familial love is unconditional or at least should be whereas platonic love is not...and romantic love is just platonic love + attraction and sex.
Serena
G What trait of theirs bothers you the most?
She can be very dominating at times. To a degree where its almost overwhelming to other people, without her really being aware of it. Especially with Mel, although it's not always noticeable since he's not very vocal about his needs but Serena has the tendency to just decide for him or put him in situations that she thinks are good for him (she tried to hook him up with multiple people from their school without him really giving his okay for example) while he himself is either lowkey uncomfortable with it or just goes along with it because it's the path of least resistance.
I dare to say Serena has improved a lot in that regard since she was a teenager and especially right now, after meeting Mel again for the first time in ages, she wouldn't pull those stunts but it's still an unhealthy tendency on her end, even if she means well.
13. What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color?
Serena doesn't really have a colour that suits her the most in her book, however she thinks she looks horrible in yellow...and red (although she really likes red)
I personally think she looks good in any colour, I particularly like her in white though.
38. What memory do they revisit the most often?
Her residential home used to do yearly trips to the North Sea. She wouldnt be able to cherry pick a specific memory but she often thinks back to these trips because they were probably the happiest times of her life.

Cereal first, anything else would be mayhem to her.
2. What do they wear to bed?
Depends on the weather. She tends to sleep naked or at least topless in summer, and usually opts for a random tshirt and sweatpants when it's cold.
3. Do they sing in the shower? What’s their go-to song (or karaoke song)?
Yes, much to her brother's dismay, cuz quite frankly she sounds like a dying cat. She just sings along to whatever comes up in her playlist. But her current favourite shower song is probably Miracle by Caravan Palace.
4. Right-handed or left-handed?
Right handed.
5. What is their preferred caffeine source and how do they take it?
There isn't anything with caffeine she dislikes.
She mainly goes for coffee of any kind (usually standard milk coffee, or Starbucks if she's feeling fancy) and Rockstar Energy Drinks.
6. What are their sleep habits like?
She's a pretty heavy sleeper. She sometimes has trouble going to bed on time though and tends to stay up till late in the night, but that's mainly because the night is like her only source of free time on a work day.
7. What song is likely to be in their Most Played list?

It's her all time favourite song.
8. How do they relax after a stressful day?
Get takeout and do a movie marathon (preferably with Mel and/or Simon)

She has coffee in the living room and listens to music, if she is not in a hurry. Otherwise she just brushes her teeth, showers and does her hair, sometimes everything more or less at once because she has no time management.
10. What’s the last thing they do before they go to bed?
Probably put on a playthrough on YouTube to watch/listen to until she dozes off.
11. Do they have any addictions (or former addictions)?
She's been a smoker since she was 13 and she has a teesy tiny energy drink addiction.

Being late, being messy af, putting the needs of the people close to her above her own.

Nothing comes to mind.
15. Are there any phrases or gestures they overuse?
"Ya know? " she uses that phrase way too often.
She also had a phase where she would put "hella" in front of every word.

A random assortment of half smoked cigarettes, keys, cellphone, hand lotion, a stress ball, a can of Rockstar, 2 lighters, her wallet...thats about it.
Philosophy for Simon:
1. Do they believe in soulmates or fate?
He doesn't believe in soulmates. Although he very much likes the idea.
As for Fate...Sort of. He likes to believe things happen for a reason, but that also comes from him having learnt to accept past things as they are. He likes to think everyone is capable of shaping their own destiny, however he doesn't deny the fact there are certain things that are simply out of our control.
2. Do they believe they have a destiny? What is it?

Sex

4. What is the quickest way to their heart?
Honestly...just be yourself, be authentic, be weird. He has a soft spot for people who don't fit the norm.

Nothing much...he wouldn't mind some alterations in the downstairs department. But as of now he's unsure about bottom surgery. He's heard too many bad things about it.
6. If they had three wishes (standard genie rules apply) what would they wish for?
Uff now that is a tough one. Honestly, I think Simon would be quite overwhelmed with the possibilities there.
In the end he'd probably only wish for one thing. Because...too much responsibility.
He'd wish for his wish to not come true. Just to see what would happen.
7. What are their views on death?
The thought of death tends to unsettle him more than he likes to admit. It's not that he's scared of death but it's a subject he's pondered about endlessly and that kind of makes him border on an existential crisis and makes him question the sense in life. 'People die, he will die, there's nothing he can do about it so better not dwell on it' is the conclusion he came to.
8. What do they value above all else?
Curiosity, people who question and want to explore the world around them, openness, empathy, love...to name a few things.
I don't think he could settle for just one thing if he tried.
9. Are they superstitious?
He's a fairly logical person all in all, so no. Although his beliefs might make people think otherwise sometimes.
If anything he likes to defy superstitions for the sole purpose of disliking how much power they have over some people. (if he were to get a cat for example he would go with a black one out of spite. )
10. Do they have a creed or code that they live by?
Yes and no. I'd say the only thing he strictly lives by is is to avoid violence whenever he can. And to step away from anger and conflict for his own well being.
There are a few things that helped shape his general outlook on life and life philosophy...but not nearly enough to be considered a code or guide line.

He can ride a bike. (What a surprise)
2. How would their best friend describe them?
He's a pretty private person and keeps most people at arms length. He doesn't really have any friends left at this point.
Most people would describe him as intimidating as fuck at first glance, looks like he eats small children for breakfast, incredibly hard to figure out (due to a constant poker face) all in all a good guy though, actually kind of awkward, but can probably still fuck you up if you give him a reason to.
3. What’s something they do to indulge or treat themselves?
Cigarettes and Whiskey (although both is more of a necessity than an indulgence at this point).
4. Would they rather be a pirate, a cowboy, a ninja, or an astronaut?
Probably a cowboy, he kinda fits that aesthetic already. But he'd be more of a lone rider type. And he'd have a Donkey instead of a horse. Mel is the donkey.
5. What would they name their children (or pets if they wouldn’t want children)?
The last thing he ever wanted was kids (lol)
And he doesn't give a flying fuck about names. Chances are he's already forgotten your name after your first conversation and will just never adress you with it anymore, simple as that.

Same for pets...he never had a pet and if he were to get one for whatever reason he'd probably just give it a bunch of nicknames depending on his mood and situation. (I could totally imagine having a dog that he lovingly calls "Ey! " or "Bastard"... or "Garbage Disposal" or something akin to that.)

Hm...
*closes eyes* It's a very overtaking smell...otherworldly...and yet...natural...as natural as it gets for me...sort of...smoky, quite smoky actually...and sweet but...spicy? I'm just throwing words around but shit it's hard to describe.
It's basically the scent of home to me at this point...it's...comforting.

Every now and then I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror...and sometimes I like to think I know the person I see but frankly I don't know shit.
