Jan’s Banded Snake - Simoselaps bertholdi
Also referred to as Southern Desert Banded Snake, Simoselaps bertholdi (Elapidae) is a venomous snake endemic to Australia. It has a body cream, yellowish or reddish-orange above, the individual scales edged behind with darker reddish-brown, and with numerous black cross-bands along the length of the body. The average total length of this snake is about 30 cm.
It is a nocturnal, secretive and fossorial, snake. Active on the surface only at night. Although regarded as venomous, the venom and clinical effects of this snake are unknown, but it is considered that is unlikely to cause significant envenoming, most unlikely to be dangerous to humans.
