Over the last five years or so, I've slacked off on my personal development. A couple years after getting a master's degree I learned that most of life's most important lessons aren't learned in school. They're actually "hidden" in books. Ironically, most adults stop reading after they graduate high school or college. Of those who read, a fraction of them actually read books that will help them develop any skill. While I LOVE reading books like "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and the "DaVinci Code" series, they did not help make me a better person. Well, truthfully, I began reading those books as I was trying to re-learn how to write fictional dialog for this novel I'm writing, but even before I started the novel, I had totally stopped reading books like Think and Grow Rich, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, How to Win Friends and Influence People and other amazingly impactful books.
So after this LONG soliloquy, I arrive at the purpose of this note. I'm BACK IN THE SADDLE! I recently started reading this book that changed my life back in 2005 called "The Slight Edge - Turning Simple Disciplines into Massive Success" by, Jeff Olson. The basis of the book is that practicing small behaviors consistently over time have a compounding effect in our lives. This rule applies for positive and negative behaviors. So if I eat McDonald's every day vs. eating a healthy meal every day, the effects will be dramatic over time. As I read the book, I will apply the principles to my life and periodically share stories from my journey, and the results that I see as I go along. I welcome you to accompany me on my journey!
