Morning harvest!!!

It hurts to cut these strawberry runners because they grow new strawberry plants. But these are first year strawberry plants and they need time to focus on root growth. Strawberry plants typically last only three years. So let them run after they have established roots.

The peas are dying down these last ones will be saved for next season.

First harvest of the season.  Dill, parsley and oregano.  Ball makes these herb jars for homegrown or bulk herbs.

I found my strawberry pot under the house so naturally I had to buy strawberries.  I also planted kale at the top because I hate to see empty space.

At about two weeks it is time to re-pot my seedlings.  The current tray is a starter tray that is only about 2 inches deep.  Next stop for this group is in the ground.

Why starter trays?  Volume!  I can pack 72 seedlings per tray vs. 20 or so (see bottom photo). Depending on how big your farm or garden is, it matters.  It can save so much space in your home or greenhouse.  

I use Winstrip trays which can be difficult to find at times.  They are made with heavy duty plastic (think milk crate) and last for years.  I’ve had mine for 8 years and they are still preforming.  It has saved me money and eliminated my use of single use plastic trays.
