Postcard confirming my membership in the Working Holiday singles series from Arlington, VA-based label Simple Machines, postmarked October 22, 1992.
I wrote a little bit about subscribing to the Working Holiday series in my last weekās post about a Simple Machines mailer, and here is the confirmation postcard. Apparently I wasĀ āDrone #306ā³ to sign up in October 1992. According toĀ the Discogs page for the box set collecting all 12 7ā³ singles, there wereĀ āapproximately 650 subscribers of the series.ā So I was a real middle-of-the-pack adopter.
Unlike the monthly singles issued by Calvin Johnsonās band The Go Team (no exclamation point, thank you) on his K Records label in 1989, this 1993 multi-band series from Simple Machines made it past September. In fact, they did in fact release twelve records total, once for each month. Though I do recall many of those releases arriving quite beyond their corresponding months, as is often the case with such endeavors.
However, one teaser here they werenāt quite able to deliver on was regarding a couple of the advertised participants. While Lois Maffeo (āof Courtney Loveā) did indeed contribute to the July single, neither Kathleen Hanna nor the aforementioned Calvin Johnson ended up providing any songs to the series. But hey, you probably have more than a few records by those two in your collection anyway, right?
