It’s difficult to not notice the man. Barnaby doesn’t even know his name, but recognizes him when he comes into the coffee shop each morning. Sitting over his own usual cup, jades can’t help but watch as he walks in, fumbling with his wallet like usual when ordering his drink. It brings a smile to his face, finding the shyness cute in comparison to most of the people that walk in and out of this café each day. That isn’t even what really catches his attention, it’s the smile that brightens his features when he accepts his drink that draws the blond in. It’s genuine and sweet, and after watching him appear day after day for a week, Barnaby finally decides to approach him.Learning his name at least, can’t hurt, right?“Is this seat taken?” he asks, pointing to the one across from the man, a small smile on his lips. It’s not exactly his style to reach out to people like this, but when the man blinks up at him, amber gaze mildly confused, he knows it was the right idea.“N-no, go ahead uh…” he trails off, unsure as the blond slips into the open seat.“Barnaby,” he supplies, the smile inching slightly wider. “Nice to meet you.”

Love meBarnaby isn’t sure how he’s managed this, only glad that he somehow has. It’s always like coaxing a frightened child to get Kotetsu to do anything with him that doesn’t involve actual hero work – saving people, surprisingly, comes as naturally as breathing to the usually easily spooked man. Yet somehow he’s managed to talk him into joining him out here, far enough from the city to enjoy the sparkle of the lights, perched at the crest of the hill not far from the highway. The sun is setting, bringing only minimal relief from the heat of the day, a fact that is obvious by the faint sheen of sweat adorning both of their faces as they sit, propped against a large rock to enjoy the view. A view that doesn’t hold much interest for him, not when his partner has stripped down to the thin tanktop he wears beneath the rest of the clothes. It’s the first time in this heatwave that Barnaby appreciates the heat that requires even him to tie his hair back and leave the leather at home.“See? It’s not so bad out here,” he notes, clinking the neck of the bottle he holds against his partner’s, offering him a small smile as they both watch the stars begin to blossom in the fading light. He’s not entirely sure if the man sees through his pathetic attempts at veiling this situation for what he wants it to be. In his head, this is sort of a date, in a way. That much is obvious from how closely they’re sitting, with the blond casually leaning his leg against Kotetsu’s, a few of their fingers overlapping on each other’s hands on the ground. It’s a far cry from the fantasies playing out in his head, but for now, it’s more than enough.
