Dozer came to us with insecurities. In time, it became apparent many of those insecurities stemmed from his failing eyesight. Knowing he would eventually be totally blind we worked to build his confidence. We never coddled him and said, he can't do this or that. We put him in situations where he would learn to trust more than his physical senses and to trust us to be his eyes if needed. When I took him to the doggie opthalmologist, they said he'd still be able to do a lot of things, but he wouldn't be able to run. I am grateful I was taught to take the opinion of others, even so called experts, with a grain of salt. Dozer jumped and leaped and ran until his final days, where his body couldn't muster it anymore. Many moons ago my Dozer and I sat before a large 36" x 55" panel dreaming up a portrait of him. I started it months later and stopped because I felt it was too big. I have since started a smaller portrait of him and had this large panel cut into smaller panels for various paintings. In the end, I was left with an odd size that I then had cut into a few 9" x12" panels.
