MYSHUNO MONDAYS: Seasons Let’s Play, Chapter 22
Rachel wasn’t sure if there were ever words more worrying than blunt, outright Jesse telling her there was something he needed to tell her.
‘This has been amusing and all, but honestly, it’s getting cold, the heating is out, and I don’t need this extra angst. When you beat around the bush, I get scared. Please spit it out.’
And all it turned out to be…
‘Let me get this straight. You’re looking like you lost all our money on a bad bet because someone openly hit on you, and you thought for a second that I might believe you were interested in it?’
‘I love you, but you’re an idiot.’
‘… That’s all you’ve got to say?’
But though it might have been her final word on the subject, it wasn’t her final thought.
And just as Jesse had turned to Tommy for advice, Rachel turned – in a setting just as comforting to her as a foosball table was to Jesse – to Juliet.
‘Isn’t this just the most wonderfully relaxing place on earth?’
‘Wonderful. I love wearing a robe in public and having strangers touch my feet.’
‘The drinks are good, though. I’ll give you that.’
‘Fine. Hot tub more your thing?’
‘A giant bowl of boiling water, out on show, where strangers have sat, making it essentially a broth of sweat and released pore clogs? No, thanks, Rach.’
‘You’re a hard woman to please, Juliet. Sauna?’
‘Okay. I can at least pretend the steam is some sort of cleansing device. Now we’re alone, are you gonna tell me why you dragged me out here?’
Rachel did; the entire story of flirty Eliza Pancakes and Jesse’s worry poured out of her like sweat from her pores.
‘But you said it yourself, Rachel. You know he’d never do it. So if you’re gonna spend your life worrying about other people’s interest in your partner, you’re setting yourself up for a lot of paranoia, stress, and misery.’
‘Why do you sound like you’re speaking from personal experience?’
Juliet laughed. ‘Because we accidentally went on a group date with Joaquin Le Chien, and he’s been texting my boyfriend four times a day ever since.’
‘Doesn’t mean Tommy’s interested in him anymore than Jesse’s interested in Eliza. Take your own advice, Rach – let it go.’
And Rachel was determined to try – all the more so for the greeting she saw Juliet, clearly inspired by their sauna conversation, give Tommy when they got home.
If Juliet could let it go, surely so could she.
