· FROM THE JOURNAL OF QUEEN MARY, SPRING 1541
I think I could be in trouble. I waited until the cover of night to meet Miguel on the palace grounds. Only this time, we got caught. Marianna heard everything we were talking about. Of course, I didn’t know that until afterwards when she confronted me. I instantly told Mariana that she could not tell Edward. I know as soon as the words were out of my mouth that I knew how unfair I was being. Mariana is, after all, Edward’s most trusted advisor. She is however, still my sister. Right before she left, Mariana said that I need to be the one to tell Edward. She’s right, of course. I spend many, many sleepless nights pacing up and down my bed chamber trying to find the right words, but all I end up doing is wondering how on earth I got myself into this mess?
Signed, Mary, Queen consort of Winderburg
