To Answer 1:

Dove would be in a horrible- no good- fucked up- nightmare place without the blood-blood fruit. That devil fruit was their saving grace and gave them the strength they needed to fight for their freedom, without it, Dove wouldn't be with Teach, Shiryu, or Laffitte- but somewhere worse. And still alive. To Answer 2:

When I first started watching One Piece, I only knew a sliver of Teach- that there was a Blackbeard in the series. When I got introduced to him, I fell in love IMMEDIATELY. The Blackbeard Pirates are the reason why I kept watching One Piece. I wanted more of them.

Teach became an all-time favorite because of his seemingly "mysterious" motivations to betray the family he grew up with. And with what we know now in the manga, it just makes him so much more fascinating. Alongside the others, I love their designs and personalities, and since we barely know anything personal about them- I, as a writer, have to fill in the gaps and explain away why they are the diabolical people they are to this day...
