Sina. - It Was You (Alex Thesleff Remix)
A remix needs to have some internal logic at play to work; as long as there’s something there, any number of permutations can spin out. One approach may only use one tenth of the source material, sounding like the original in only fits and starts; others may make what seem like a few small changes, but the execution far outweighs the sum of its parts. As long as there is a plan in place and proper respect is paid to the original work, anything truly can happen.
Sina.’s latest It Was You EP features the original and three remixes that run the gamut of possible outcomes. I was particularly struck with Alex Thessleff’s version; by picking up the tempo and grounding the original’s dreaminess, it works as a perfect complement to Sina.’s first composition. The whole EP is worth checking out on Bandcamp; johnny_ripper’s version takes a completely different approach than what’s heard here and is all the better for it. As always, enjoy.
