SinArin in the sirens scene from Epic the Musical (Suffering/Different Beast) do you see my vision
Sinestro falls of the bed with a soft ‘thud’ eyes blearily blinking open in baffled befuddlement. His ribs feel oddly sore, as if someone had been kicking them, but Arin doesn’t move in her sleep at all, and she shouldn’t shove him off the bed anyway. Not while he was asleep at least. He leans up on his arm and peers over the side of his bed, quickly getting his answer.
He’d forgotten Soranik had crawled into bed with them last night. The toddler was almost horizontal on the bed, head resting on Arin’s stomach and small body sprawling were he normally slept. She must have literally kicked him off the bed, he realizes in amusement. Such a strong little girl they had…
“Thaal?” Arin murmurs sleepily, staring at him in confusion from his place on the floor. “Did something fall?” Unconsciously she’s running a hand through Soranik’s hair as she continues sleeping peaceful, undisturbed with kicking him out of his own bed.
“I did. It seems Soranik decided to take over my half of the bed,” he says, lips twitching in to a smile of amusement. “She moves quite a bit in her sleep like I do. My ribs are rather sore.”
“I told you we shouldn’t let the baby sleep in bed with us anymore,” Arin points out with a sigh. “She’s getting too big.”
“She had a bad dream though!” Sinestro defends, knowing he indulges Soranik too much. Arin was…unimpressed by all the toys he kept bringing home to Soranik after missions and spoiling her with.
“Thaal. She just kicked you out of bed,” Arin says flatly, giving him a Look™.
“So?”
“Thaal.”
Arin feels a weight against her stomach and she opens sleepy eyes, spying her husband's dark head resting against her pregnancy swollen middle, ear pressed tightly to her. In her sleep she'd been running her hands through his hair and Arin now realizes the odd purring sound that had been slipping into her dreams was from Thaal.
In his sleep he'd migrated down to resting against her pregnancy bump. Thaal had been fascinated by all the changes her body had been going through for the past months, growing more and more excited for their baby. According to Dr. Natu, they were expecting a little girl and they'd already decided on the name Soranik, the name of a legendary Korugarian heroine who saved the lost kingdom of Korun over two thousand years ealier.
Thaal had been spending most of his time on Korugar with her, reluctant to run patrol with her as far along in pregnancy as she is. It feels like any day she'll be giving birth, so she doesn't mind. Arin feels a bit of guilt that she's distracting Thaal from his duty, but at the same time is willing to be selfish about this. They're about to be new parents and the universe can get by without her husband for the time being.
Instead they get to rest and wait for their baby together.
I need SinArin fic to read (as I attempt to write a follow up to 'Brightest')
Fuck it *is attempting to write Halallax and a follow up to 'Brightest Day*
Contemplating writing an AU of Arin Sur, instead of hiding Soranik with the Natus runs away with her and Sinestro spends years trying to find them, becoming angry and bitter in the process. He only really gets distracted by Hal and then his exile, which forces him to cut off his search for Arin and Soranik.
And then Hal finds them.
Asking for Help
Sinestro had wanted to keep his marriage private, quiet and away from the Corps. But as the situation worsens on Korugar, as he grows more and more worried about what could happen to Soranik and Arin…he takes both his wife and daughter to Oa. Even if his request for back up is meets with scolding by the Guardians at least he’ll have tried. It’s becoming impossible though and based on rumors (though he’s had difficulty in verifying them himself), Apokolyptian weapons may have made their way into at least a faction’s hands. If so that adds a whole new issue to the quandary of his homeworld.
Again he thinks of that dark little idea. Conquest and rule, using the ring to enforce peace upon Korugar but just as he did at Soranik’s birth he brushes the thought aside. No, he will not turn down that path. He will not! He will not become a monster and he knows that’s the only way that would turn out, as the new monster that haunts Korugar’s history.
“Sinestro, who’s this?” shouts Kilowog, the training master striding toward him, Arin and Soranik as they land.
Soranik is asleep in Arin’s arms, barely stirring even at Kilowog’s loudness. Even so, both he and Arin give the other Lantern scolding looks, Arin pointedly looking at the sleeping baby. The other man winces, apparently having not noticed Soranik until then.
“Sorry. But who are you both?” Kilowog asks, more quietly.
“My wife and daughter,” Sinestro says, glorying in the almost bugged eyed look Kilowog gives him.
“My name is Arin Sur, well, now Arin Sinestro,” Arin amends. “This is our daughter Soranik Sinestro. And before you ask, yes, I am related to Abin; he’s my older brother.”
“How…why did you keep the fact you were married secret?” asks Kilowog, confused.
“We enjoy our privacy,” Sinestro says shortly. And it really was that simple. He hadn’t wanted other Lanterns sticking their noses into his relationship. Unfortunately they no longer have that luxury, not if he wants help for dealing with the steadily devolving situation on Korugar.
“It has been pleasant,” agrees Arin. “And Abin was worried about his enemies hunting down his family on Ungara if it became widely known he had a sister, especially after what happened to my poor niece,” she winces, remembering the brutal murder. Sinestro thinks that Abin still hasn’t caught the murderess yet and silently wishes Abin luck once more on his search.
“Makes sense. Then why are you here on Oa? That’s not a good way to keep things secret,” Kilowog points out.
“I need help and I hope the Guardians will allow me back up for this. A civil war has been racking Korugar for the past three decades. I’ve been doing my best to deal with matters, but now it appears a faction has gotten their hands on Apokolyptian weapons,” explains Sinestro as they walk toward his apartment on Oa. “There have been threats made against Arin and Soranik and I was worried about leaving them on Korugar. And due to the amount of enemqies Abin has I decided it would be safest to bring them both to Oa.”
“Makes sense,” agrees Kilowog.
After Arin and Soranik are settled in, Kilowog helping them find a crib from somewhere for the baby to sleep in he heads to the main chamber to make his report. He nods to several Lanterns he recognizes but doesn’t stop to speak to anyone. He’s too busy planning what he will say to the Guardians, what he will need to do to convince them he needs help. Sinestro knows interference from Apokolypse and Darkseid can generally get more Lanterns involved, but he still worries.
He feels like there’s something that he should have been able to do! That he should have been able to do this alone!
*******************
After his meeting with the Guardians he almost collapses in relief; they’re sending him help and agree that matters have gone beyond what one Lantern could deal with. Kilowog, Tomar Tu, Boodika and Abin will go assist him with the civil war on Korugar. In the meantime Arin and Soranik would be more than welcome to be on Oa even if he wasn’t.
They would be safe. Soon his world would be calm. Soon they would be able to raise Soranik in peace on Korugar.
Soon everything would be alright.
Making the Right Choice
Sinestro smiles down at Soranik, the newborn sleeping in his arm. Arin rests in their bed, exhausted after giving birth. He’d never imagined how tiring that must be until he’d seen the strain on his wife, yet at the same time the ecstatic look on Arin’s face as she held Soranik for the first time. He doesn’t think he’s ever seen a more perfect moment in time.
The vidscreen suddenly blares on with a burst of sound, startling him. He watches in horror as riots overtake the screen and he cuddles Soranik closely. The civil war is getting worse. He’s done his best to intervene but has been failing. He can’t be everywhere at once and he has to patrol the Sector as well.
He wonders…he glances down at his ring. It’s the most powerful weapon in the universe. So far he’s mostly stuck to peaceful actions, but maybe, just maybe he could use the ring to enforce peace. His will is strong enough. He could do it.
Then Soranik moves in his arms, cuddling closer to him. Sinestro studies his daughter’s face. But…but what would Soranik think of him? What would Arin? He would have to take total control for that to work. He’d have to become a dictator.
No. There has to be another way.
