“i feel like it’s been forever since we’ve hung out” she complains from the spot she’s taken up on clare’s bed, pink pout pinker than usual, her whole face is tanned from days spent under the sun. the summer has always agreed with her. “let’s have an us day, just you and me, i’ll even let you pick the first thing on the agenda”

tori: with a cinnamon pretzel in one hand, and a shopping bag loaded with lacy undergarments (that she'll probably never wear) in the other, they make it, finally, to the jewelry store where tori has to be inconspicuous. "ladies" the store clerk greets them from behind the sunday paper, sets the entertainment section down only when tori fishes the clear, emerald cut diamond out of the bottom of her purse. "i wanted to see about getting this appraised" she hands the rock over and can't help but think about the first time she ever saw it, glittering from a bright blue box in the hands of the man she thought she'd spend forever with. hopes clare's moment is just as magical, but hopes even more that it lasts. "and while we're here, can we see your engagement selection? just to try some out.."
