I had been thinking the same exact thing about why it couldn't have been Louis or Liam either. Bless Liam's heart but I think he would have just left the entire fandom in a weird state of confusion and heightened anxiety. Current more mature and introspective Liam? Possibly could have pulled it off. 2016 Liam? Nope.
exaaaactly. even 2017 liam, when he was doing that radio tour just before/after his single dropped was.....very confusing to say the least. so liam as The Voice of post-1D 1D?? a Mess(TM) rip

well liam did announce his record deal first didn't he? but i guess he wasn't doing interviews. i agree though the discourse would have been un-fucking-bearable if it were harry askjasjhaf. niall did a great job and really handled it with aplomb though!
as far as i remember, he WAS the first to have a record deal announced, but i think there’s a big difference between announcing a record deal/posting to social media from the studio and actually releasing a song/going on a promo tour for it, you know?? and with liam, even during the carpool karaoke at the end of MITAM promo, they talked about liam was sure to be the one that would get bored and want to get back to work the quickest. so even announcing a record deal or posting from the studio or any other way of showing intent of a solo career maybe wasn’t taken as seriously because it fell under so many people’s “liam the workaholic” perceptions??
