I'm not sure how your academic system works for these things, but if the first couple of years of requirements are the same, could you swap back out of the nanoscience track to a general science one, if you decided later that it wasn't for you? Or are you just really and truly locked in? That's a tough one, but so cool that it's something that you'd easily qualify for! Good luck!

Tbh, I’m not entirely sure how transferring between works except that you can’t transfer into something that you didn’t have the grades for and that there is a cutoff point fairly early on (like possibly the first week of classes?) for leaving a degree without penalty if you arrive and realise you hate it. 

I have been told that the theoretical physics people have the option of transferring into mathematics or general science (to do either physics or physics and astrophysics--you wouldn’t be able to up and do zoology or something) so it would seem to make sense that you’d be allowed to transfer into general science from nanoscience, but things making sense by no means is a guarantee that that’s how it is. :(

ugh, that fucking sucks.

Yeah it’s just like... I feel like the wildest I dare to dream is that cis people won’t take every single opportunity to be transphobic and yet that’s still too much?? I expected it, because it came up when we did the survey and my tutor said we’d “discuss” it as an example of how people could take issue with how statistical information was collected.  But like... just let me fucking live. I already am resigned to never coming out, never having a partner who I can reliably expect not to misgender me, never feeling comfortable with most people I meet my whole life. Isn’t that enough? Can’t I just hide in fucking peace?
