Walking in pursuit of the greatest commandment today and every other day. // Today I overlooked all the love that already prominently exists. I, as any other single girl, looked at all the couples, all the sweet gestures, the reds and pinks, the stuffed overly priced animals and came home just to be greeted by my overly greeting babes (Karisma & Freidah (that’s a regular thing)). I let the enemy feed me it’s lies, and for a minute began feeling punny over my “singleness”. —But then I looked at the words God uses to describe love, I see words like: sacrifice, patience, compassion, obedience, unity, action, faithfulness, and forgiveness. Words i don’t find? dinner reservations, candy & flowers, or boyfriends, or “goals,” or even feelings. Look, those things are nice and have place. But joy isn’t found in them. So here’s a little secret I’ve learned that has resulted in not only a better day but also better love & happier life: THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU. It’s not about a man or what you have or don’t have. I don’t care if you’re single and stressed about it or blissful dating or battling a broken marriage, you can’t be patient if you’re focused on being pampered, you can’t be sacrificial if you’re selfish, and you can’t put love in action if you’re actively obsessing on what you lack. When you make it about you, you feel lonelier instead of living the love the Lord’s given you. When you make it all about you, you drain love of its purpose and that’s simply this: to put yourself away and place Him instead. There’s so much more joy in that. So, so much more.
