Shopping frenzy Singles Day has a heart and a story, so where did it begin?
Apparently, China has an annual “Singles Day”, which took place a couple of days ago, where the point seems to be for people not in a relationship to buy gifts to themselves - online. It seems kinda, um, big:
China Post estimates that 760 million packages will be shipped by various Chinese e-shopping sites to customers on the day.
Granted, there are probably many people who buy themselves more than one gift and similar, but ... that is a lot of loneliness out there.
