there’s been a lull in his activity;  of how often he’s spending his time with her.  for better,  or for worse,  has yet to be seen.  but he’s done it multiple times these past few weeks.  leaving unexpectedly,  without a word   /   being gone for days.  priest’s absence is notable.  even he can see that by the cold shoulder he’s being given.  he’ll start off soft:    “  it’s not you,  it’s me.  ”    laced with sarcasm.    “  seriously.  sammy.  i had things to do.  what more do you want from me?  ”

she’s not the first one there.  promised herself she wouldn’t be for obvious reasons.  not that the turnout of their classmates was all that grand.  finn,  kurt,  quinn   —   jacqueline shows up with flowers.  a housewarming gift that she takes directly to mary before she makes it a point to stick with stevie and stacey.  smiles at their excitement of getting their rooms back.  she’s not outright avoiding sam either.  would be dumb to try when she’s in the evans’ house,  or as he’s passing off a box to her that she graciously carries back inside.

she might not have been the first to arrive,  but she ends up being the last to leave.  not that she’s even leaving yet.    “  i can come by tomorrow.  help some more.  my dad also knows a guy that could help with redecorating.  ”    she pauses.  reluctant to say anything else.  maybe she’s overstepping   —   as if she hasn’t already.

“  hey so,  dad left some extra cash for us.  we can order double toppings if we want to,  or even extra cheese.  ”    he’s excited,  to say the least.  glad to have sam over  —  whatever it takes to make him feel a little more welcome.  archie maneuvers his way around vegas,  whose priority is to get a good whiff of the newcomer in their house,  in order to take sam’s bag from him.  he’ll take it upstairs for him.  no problem.    “  that is,  if you want to.  or we can use what’s left to head over to pop’s instead  —  whatever you want.  ”
