Why do so many antis seem to think that with trauma, the end goal is to forever be so fucked up by it that even seeing/hearing a mention of it makes you unable to function?

"Oh you were raped but you can still write fanfiction about rape? You must be lying"

Like believe it or not, my therapist does NOT want me to feel sick to my stomach or go into full shut down mode whenever I encounter some particularly triggering material out in the wild.

Being "desensitized" to things like that can actually be a good thing in this case, you know?? Because it means that, at least with fictional content, you can see something with the potential to be upsetting to you and just... not let it ruin your whole day.

And that's a good thing, actually!

Sooo sick and tired of all the replies on my "how is writing about fictional rape different from writing about fictional murder" being some variation of "it's fine to depict these things but the problem is when you glorify/romanticize/fetishize/normalize them"

And then they hit you with some variation of "violence isn't romanticized/fetishized/glorified in fiction" which is an absolute fucking lieee because what world do you live in to think that statement is true???

Cannibalism is a metaphor for love, vore art, x reader fics thirsting over horror movie killers, violent video games that reward you for killing your opponent, excessive gore blogs - these are all FINE but you write someone having mixed feelings about someone who raped them and suddenly bitches wanna reinstate the hays code

Antis think that proshippers claim fiction can never affect reality when really what we say is, by and large, "fiction is not reality".

If there's one group who has a problem understanding this, it's antis.

"If I tell you to kys then it doesn't matter bc it's just words". Incorrect. You are directing your vitriol to a real human being that just happens to be behind your screen

"If I post a pic of your house from google maps it doesn't matter bc it's just pixels on a screen". Incorrect. The house exists in real life, and the person who lives there is a real person that you are threatening

"If you enjoy this content in fiction, why not just look it up in real life? The dark web exists and you can find what you enjoy there". Incorrect and also extremely sick. Characters in a story are not real and cannot be hurt. You are urging someone to give up writing fiction in favor of seeking out content of real life people being hurt and exploited because you think "hurting" fictional characters is worse than hurting a human being

Antis are the ones who have shown time and time again that they literally cannot tell the difference between fiction and reality, and they insist on projecting that onto those of us that can.
