Hi! I just wanted to say all your Dragon Age fanart is amazing! :D I'm trying to draw some too in celebration for Dragon Age: Inquisition's impending release (only a few days to go now!), and I'm feeling quite inspired by your work. Out of curiosity, what programs/mediums do you usually work with? Thanks! :D
Thank you so much! It’s very nice to hear that my work is inspiring someone else!
There are three primary programs I use for my art: Photoshop Elements 10, Painter SAI, and Manga Studio SE 4/Clip Studio Paint (the last two are basically the same program, but packaged differently; Clip Studio is also a newer version of SE 4 that has much better painting brushes!)
I used to use pencils to sketch, then I would ink, scan, and paint on the computer, but now I primarily work just on the computer. I have an old Wacom Intuos 3 which still works great. I actually rarely use PS these days - it’s great for gradients and if I need to use layer masks, but SAI has much better painting tools than PS Elements, at least IMO.
For digital inks, Manga Studio/Clip Studio has the best digital inking brushes I’ve used. All of the DA tarot cards I’ve put up recently are done entirely in Clip Studio, while all the looser, sketchy pieces are done in SAI with a brush set to emulate mechanical pencil.
That’s probably a bit long of an answer, but I hope it’s helpful! Have fun with your art in the leadup to DAI! I am incredibly excited that we’re down to so few days left!
